Pogačar Reacts With Humor to Evenepoel’s Tour of Flanders 2026 Entry

Tadej Pogačar landed in Belgium from Monaco and immediately shared his reaction to the cycling world’s biggest recent news. Remco Evenepoel has committed to competing in the Tour of Flanders 2026 on Sunday, April 5, adding the grueling Monument to his spring calendar and creating an unexpected challenge on the cobbles.

During an appearance on Belgian television show Vive le Vélo on Thursday night, Pogačar offered candid thoughts on Evenepoel’s participation.

“Have I sent him a message yet? No,” Pogačar said. “I was somewhat surprised by his participation, but then again, not really. There had been rumors for a while.”

The timing of the announcement amused him. “Yesterday was April 1st, so maybe it was even a joke,” he laughed. “It is nice that he is participating.”

Belgian Enthusiasm Fuels Pogačar’s Confidence

Pogačar arrived brimming with confidence, immediately sensing the intensity surrounding Belgium’s classics season. The energy at the airport set the tone for his weekend.

“I cannot wait to start on Sunday. I think I am ready for it. I have done a lot for it in training,” he stated. “At the airport, I already felt the enthusiasm of the fans. People were waiting for signatures and photos.”

The UAE Team Emirates leader deeply appreciates the Flemish cycling culture. “In Belgium, I am also recognized the most. When I first rode the Ronde, I found it mindblowing how many people were on the side of the road. Crazy to ride through that. You really feel that Belgium is the cradle of cycling.”

Spring Form Remains Intact After Milano-Sanremo

Pogačar has executed a flawless spring campaign, capturing victories at Strade Bianche and Milano-Sanremo in March. A severe crash near the Cipressa during the Italian Monument could have derailed his preparation, but recovery proved swift.

“Sanremo is a different kind of race, but I had a few days to rest afterwards,” Pogačar noted. “Surprisingly, that crash did not leave severe damage. I hardly suffered from it.”

While recovering at home, he monitored the recent cobbled races closely. His attention centered on teammate Florian Vermeersch, who competed in the E3, Wevelgeld, and Dwars door Vlaanderen.

“Florian did a fantastic job,” Pogačar said. “I always send him a message after the race. ‘Why don’t you win?'” he joked. “No, everyone on the team is in good shape. Sunday we are counting on everyone to go for the win.”
