Formula 1 has published its provisional 2027 calendar, confirming another 24-race season built around the sport’s second year under the revised electric-ICE regulations. The headline change lands on the streets of Monaco, where the Principality will host a Sprint weekend for the first time, part of a record ten Sprint rounds across the campaign.
The move on Monaco is a direct response to years of criticism over the circuit’s lack of overtaking opportunities. Adding a Sprint format to the June 5th weekend signals F1’s willingness to experiment with one of its most traditional and prestigious fixtures, even as it continues searching for ways to boost on-track action without touching the layout itself.
The season opens in Bahrain with a Sprint weekend on March 12-14, scheduled a week after the end of Ramadan. Despite the axing of two Middle Eastern races this year, with the final pair expected to follow the same fate, the Gulf region retains its usual presence on the 2027 schedule, bookending the calendar with Bahrain at the start and Qatar and Abu Dhabi closing out the year in December.
Canada and Silverstone keep their Sprint statuses intact. Portimao returns to the calendar on June 20, slotted in a week after the Le Mans 24 Hours. Montreal continues its tradition of racing before Monaco, but organisers have avoided a repeat clash with the Indy 500, which will run on May 30, seven days ahead of the Canadian round.
Turkey makes a comeback too. The Istanbul circuit, a fan favourite from its previous stint on the calendar, returns on October 3 as the middle leg of a triple-header sandwiched between Azerbaijan and Singapore.

Ten Sprint weekends is the highest total F1 has ever scheduled in a single season. Placing one on Monaco’s tight streets forces teams to rethink setup strategy across a compressed weekend, with less practice time to dial in a car built for a circuit where mistakes carry heavy penalties.
Portimao and Turkey returning to the fold gives the 2027 season two circuits that drivers have long praised for their flow and elevation changes, a contrast to the street layouts dominating much of the modern calendar.
