Pedro Acosta, the 20-year-old Spanish sensation, appears to be steering his future with laser precision — and his destination is Ducati. Despite being under contract with KTM until 2026, the Red Bull KTM rider has made no secret of his discontent with the RC16’s lackluster competitiveness. At Silverstone, where he finished a disappointing 25th, Acosta delivered a telling quote: “I’m not patient.”
According to Sky Italia, Acosta has only one preference for his next MotoGP chapter — Ducati. And it’s not just any seat he’s after. Sources suggest his eyes are fixed firmly on the VR46 Racing Team, Ducati’s satellite outfit that’s quickly become one of the grid’s most competitive squads.
Acosta’s Message: Win or Walk
The paddock is buzzing, and Honda — previously seen as a frontrunner to sign Acosta — might be out of luck. The young rider reportedly refuses to entertain any offer that doesn’t include a championship-contending bike. With Honda’s recent performance woes, they’re no longer part of that equation in his view.
Yet despite the friction, Acosta isn’t pushing for an early KTM exit. Contractual obligations, along with KTM’s recent financial stabilization thanks to its Bajaj partnership, add complexity to any potential move. But make no mistake: the Spaniard’s patience is running thin, and his ambitions clear.
Ducati’s Strategic Play
Gigi Dall’Igna, Ducati’s general manager, is closely monitoring Acosta’s situation. The VR46 team remains the most probable landing spot, especially given its proven performance with year-old Desmosedici machines. However, there’s a wildcard: Franco Morbidelli. Currently fourth in the standings, Morbidelli’s resurgence may complicate Ducati’s internal reshuffling plans.
Still, Ducati holds a deep bench of options and the technical firepower to field multiple competitive bikes. If not VR46, there are whispers of alternative arrangements within Ducati’s racing network to secure Acosta’s signature.

Eyes on 2026 – and the Clock Is Ticking
While Acosta is actively exploring his options, his current team isn’t out of the equation just yet. KTM’s future MotoGP strategy remains undefined, even as its finances stabilize. A major development or investment could sway the narrative — though at present, Ducati looks like the only path to championship glory for Acosta.
One thing is certain: the decision won’t come quickly. As Sky Italia puts it, “his future will probably be defined very late,” hinging heavily on what KTM plans and how Ducati reshuffles its lineup. But when the time comes, Acosta’s choice will be singular — the bike that leads to victory, and right now, that means Ducati.
