Federico Chiesa Misses Training Ahead of Liverpool's Trip to Galatasaray

Federico Chiesa Absent from AXA Training Centre

Liverpool‘s preparations for their Champions League meeting with Galatasaray have been disrupted by the absence of  Federico Chiesa. The Italian forward was not present during Monday morning’s open training session at the AXA Training Centre as the squad finalized plans before traveling to Istanbul.

Chiesa most recently appeared as a late substitute during the 2-1 Premier League loss to Wolves last Tuesday. He remained an unused substitute throughout Friday’s FA Cup win against the same side. The medical staff must now decide if the winger is fit enough to travel to Turkey or if he will remain in England for further assessment.

Wirtz and Gravenberch Boost Slot’s Options

While Chiesa remained sidelined, Arne Slot welcomed other key figures back into the main group.  Florian Wirtz participated fully following his return from a back injury during the FA Cup fixture. The German playmaker is working toward his first competitive start since February 14.

Ryan Gravenberch also maintained his presence in the squad after signing a new contract over the weekend. Other first-team regulars involved in the session included:

  • Alexis Mac Allister
  • Dominik Szoboszlai
  • Curtis Jones
  • Mohamed Salah
  • Virgil van Dijk

Mohamed Salah stands on the verge of history. If he features against Galatasaray, he will become Liverpool‘s all-time record holder for appearances in the Champions League.

Academy Talents Push for Istanbul Inclusion

The session featured several youth prospects looking to bridge the gap to the senior XI. Rio Ngumoha trained with the first team after a strong performance against Wolves and remains a candidate for a starting role in Istanbul. Midfielder Afalomi Onanuga also joined the senior ranks for the morning drills.

Trey Nyoni missed the session following his involvement in the Under 21 side’s 5-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday. Defensively, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Jeremie Frimpong, Andy Robertson, and Milos Kerkez all completed the workout without issue.

“The Italian forward’s absence will naturally prompt questions ahead of a demanding European away trip.”

The club faces a hostile environment in Istanbul, where Galatasaray are notoriously difficult to beat at home. Arne Slot is expected to provide a formal update on the fitness of his squad during his scheduled media briefing later today. Stay tuned to TipsGG for the latest tactical breakdowns and team news.
