WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event comes to State Farm Arena in Atlanta on September 6 with four confirmed matches and a fifth potentially being unlocked during the show itself. Fans planning to attend can also check our Sunday Night’s Main Event tickets guide for current prices, seating options and venue details. Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton headline the card, Oba Femi meets Bron Breakker in a battle WWE has explicitly framed around the future of the company, and Lil Yachty only needs to survive five minutes against United States Champion Baron Corbin to earn Trick Williams a title rematch later that same night.
This is a small card, but almost every match has a mechanism for extending a story rather than ending one. Rhodes and Orton have barely begun escalating, WWE has reasons to protect both Femi and Breakker, and the entire Corbin-Yachty match exists to determine whether a second match happens. That makes the finish more important than the wrestling in several places.
Odds below are from BetUS, converted to decimal. Percentages are de-vigged — the bookmaker margin stripped out proportionally — so they represent the market’s underlying expectation rather than the inflated raw probability. If you are new to wagering on professional wrestling, our WWE betting guide explains how wrestling markets work and what to consider before placing a bet.
Sunday Night’s Main Event Predictions
Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton
Odds: Randy Orton 1.20 (fair 76.9%) | Cody Rhodes 4.00 (fair 23.1%)
The market is emphatic, and this is one of the occasions where the short favorite makes sense. Orton returned at SummerSlam specifically to cost Rhodes another shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship, and the feud since then has been built around something more personal than simply deciding who is the better wrestler.
The important part of the story is the line Rhodes has not yet been willing to cross. Orton has spent weeks trying to prove that Cody’s obsession with getting the championship back is consuming him, while Rhodes has repeatedly threatened violence without yet becoming the same kind of character as the man provoking him. A straightforward Cody win in Atlanta resolves that tension instead of developing it.
Orton winning does the opposite. WWE can give Rhodes a moment where he has an opportunity to seriously hurt Orton, hesitates, and pays for it immediately. That gives Randy the victory while pushing Cody further toward the psychological change this programme appears to be built around.
A no-contest is the main alternative. The feud is violent enough that a match which collapses into a brawl would be defensible, but with Orton priced this short, the stronger prediction is that WWE gives him an actual win and saves the decisive Rhodes victory for later.
Predicted Winner: Randy Orton
What’s next: This should not finish the feud. Rhodes losing gives WWE a reason to push him further toward the darker version of the character Orton has been trying to expose, with another match later in the autumn as the natural payoff.
Oba Femi vs Bron Breakker
Odds: Oba Femi 1.36 (fair 67.4%) | Bron Breakker 2.80 (fair 32.6%)
This is the match where we disagree with the market. On pure booking strength, Femi deserves to be favorite. He came out of SummerSlam having defeated Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell and is being presented as one of WWE’s defining future main-event stars. Beating him clean one month later would make little sense.
But Breakker has exactly the same protection problem. WWE has promoted this as a battle over who represents the future of the company. Having either man simply pin the other creates a hierarchy WWE has little reason to establish this early.
That is where Bronson Reed matters. Reed is reportedly ready to return, has been discussed for a major heel role, and a programme with Femi has already been floated. Sunday Night’s Main Event is also being discussed as a possible return date. With Breakker already connected to Reed through The Vision, the booking route is sitting in plain sight.
Reed can cost Femi the match without WWE asking the audience to believe Breakker was simply the better man. A distraction, attack outside the referee’s view or post-match chaos can move Femi directly into Reed while giving Breakker the significant singles victory he badly needs.
The price is also far more interesting than it was. Breakker does not need to be the likelier winner overall for 2.80 to be attractive; he only needs the interference scenario to occur more often than the market’s 32.6% fair probability suggests. We think it does.
Predicted Winner: Bron Breakker
What’s next: Bronson Reed returns and becomes Femi’s immediate problem. Breakker leaves with the result rather than a decisive claim to superiority, which allows WWE to revisit Femi-Breakker later without having exhausted the matchup.
Lil Yachty vs Baron Corbin: Five-Minute Challenge
Odds: Lil Yachty 1.10 (fair 85.5%) | Baron Corbin 6.50 (fair 14.5%)
The stipulation gives away most of the answer. If Yachty lasts five minutes, Trick Williams receives another United States Championship match against Corbin later that night. WWE has created an entire second act for the story that disappears if Corbin simply beats him in four minutes.
That does not mean Yachty needs to look competitive with a full-time champion. The cleaner structure is Corbin dominating most of the five minutes, becoming increasingly frustrated as the clock runs down and finally landing something decisive a second or two too late. Yachty gets the celebrity underdog moment without Corbin having to lose a conventional wrestling match.
Atlanta also matters. Yachty is performing in front of his hometown audience on a show that is opening with Quavo, so this is designed as an entertainment payoff as much as a wrestling result. The five-minute survival is the payoff.
At 1.10 there is essentially no betting value left. It is still the strongest prediction on the card.
Predicted Winner: Lil Yachty — survives five minutes
What’s next: Trick Williams gets his United States Championship rematch later in the show, while Corbin can immediately argue that Yachty survived the clock rather than defeated him.
Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley vs Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab
Odds: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley 1.33 (fair 69.2%) | Jade Cargill, Michin & B-Fab 3.00 (fair 30.8%)
The go-home SmackDown made the direction clearer. Flair and Paxley defeated Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid, with Paxley scoring the decisive fall, before Jade, Michin and B-Fab joined Fatal Influence in laying out Flair, Bliss and Paxley after the match.
That is a classic television setup for the babyface team to get its revenge two nights later. It also tells us whom WWE currently wants to feature. Paxley has only just arrived on SmackDown and has immediately been placed alongside two former world champions, then given the pin over an established champion. Cooling her off now would work against everything WWE has done in the last week.
The finish does not need to hurt Jade. Michin or B-Fab can take the fall, Paxley can score another important pin, and WWE leaves with both its new call-up and its biggest star in the heel team protected.
The more interesting question is what happens inside the winning team. Charlotte has not shown the same immediate trust in Paxley that Alexa has, so a moment of miscommunication is still useful even if it does not cost them the match.
Predicted Winner: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & Tatum Paxley
What’s next: Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley have a natural route toward the Women’s Tag Team Championship, while Charlotte can gradually separate from the partnership and return to singles business. Jade does not need to be pinned to leave the match with her next programme intact.
Trick Williams vs Baron Corbin: United States Championship
Odds: Trick Williams 1.38 (fair 66.1%) | Baron Corbin 2.70 (fair 33.9%)
Conditional match: This bout only takes place if Lil Yachty survives five minutes against Corbin earlier in the show.
The fact that bookmakers are already pricing the match tells you how strongly the market expects Yachty to unlock it. Once that happens, the structure becomes unusually favorable for Williams.
Corbin took the championship from Trick at SummerSlam by using the title while the referee was unable to see it. Since then, WWE has kept Williams attached to the programme instead of moving him elsewhere, and the entire Yachty stipulation has been constructed to manufacture one more title opportunity.
There is also an elegant protection mechanism for Corbin. He will already have wrestled once that evening. If Trick beats him, WWE does not need to present the result as proof that Corbin’s title run was a failure; the champion can point to being forced into two matches on the same show.
That is why this looks much more like the payoff than another extension. Corbin’s SummerSlam title win gave the feud a second act. Yachty surviving gives it the third. Trick reclaiming the championship is the cleanest ending.
Predicted Winner: Trick Williams
What’s next: Williams begins another United States Championship run with the Atlanta moment the storyline has been designed to create. Corbin has an immediate complaint about wrestling twice and can either demand one final match or move into a new programme without having been beaten under normal circumstances.
All Five Picks
| Match | Pick | Odds | De-vigged | Key detail |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton | Randy Orton | 1.20 | 76.9% | A Cody loss advances the psychological story and keeps the feud alive |
| Oba Femi vs Bron Breakker | Bron Breakker | 2.80 | 32.6% | Bronson Reed gives WWE a mechanism to beat Femi without beating him clean |
| Lil Yachty vs Baron Corbin | Lil Yachty | 1.10 | 85.5% | The five-minute stipulation exists to unlock Trick Williams’ rematch |
| Six-woman tag | Flair, Bliss & Paxley | 1.33 | 69.2% | The go-home beatdown and Paxley’s push point to a babyface payoff |
| Trick Williams vs Baron Corbin* | Trick Williams | 1.38 | 66.1% | Corbin working twice protects him while allowing WWE to return the title to Trick |
*Trick Williams vs Baron Corbin only takes place if Lil Yachty survives the five-minute challenge.
Yachty at 1.10 and Orton at 1.20 are prediction prices rather than betting prices — there is very little upside for taking on the risk. Flair, Bliss and Paxley at 1.33 is more playable but still short. The number that stands out is Bron Breakker at 2.80. If Bronson Reed returns and becomes involved with Oba Femi, WWE has a ready-made way to cash the underdog without damaging Femi’s push. Trick Williams at 1.38 also makes storyline sense, but because his match is conditional, check the bookmaker’s void and settlement rules before betting. Always gamble responsibly.
