Paul Seixas Claims La Flèche Wallonne at 19, Becomes Youngest Winner in 90 Years

Seixas Dominates Ardennes Classic in Career-Defining Victory

Paul Seixas has emerged as one of cycling’s most exciting young talents after claiming La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday, the Belgian one-day classic that stands as his most significant triumph to date. The 19-year-old French cyclist, racing for Decathlon CMA CGM, crossed the finish line three seconds clear of Mauro Schmid and Ben Tulett in the Wallonian Ardennes.

The victory makes Seixas the youngest ever winner of the monument in its 90-year history. He becomes the first Frenchman to win the race since Julian Alaphilippe in 2021, cementing his status among cycling’s elite.

Historic April for Rising Star

The La Flèche Wallonne triumph caps a remarkable month for the Lyonnais rider. Earlier in April 2026, Seixas won the Tour de Basque Country, his inaugural World Tour stage race victory. Two World Tour events in a single month at age 19 represents an acceleration rarely seen in professional cycling.

Tadej Pogacar, who won La Flèche Wallonne in 2025 and did not compete this year, did not participate alongside Remco Evenepoel, another notable absence from the Belgian classic.

Drawing Comparisons Without Overreach

Seixas has already drawn early comparisons to Pogacar, cycling’s dominant force who continues breaking all-time records. Last year, after finishing seventh in Il Lombardia, his first Monument appearance, the teenage rider resisted direct comparison, arguing the circumstances differ substantially. Pogacar at 19—eight years ago—had fewer opportunities available to elite junior graduates than Seixas currently enjoys.

The comparison remains premature but understandable. Success at this age and caliber places Seixas among the sport’s most promising prospects, though his trajectory will ultimately determine whether early dominance translates into sustained excellence.
