Brondby IF have signed Patrick Mortensen on a two-year contract, bringing the 36-year-old striker back to the club 19 years after his first spell. Mortensen arrives on a free transfer from AGF, where he was part of the squad that ended the club’s 40-year wait for a Danish league title last season.

Mortensen first wore a Brondby shirt in the Superliga, and his career has now come full circle. The striker is widely regarded as one of the most prolific forwards in the league’s history, having scored 115 goals — making him the sixth-highest scorer in Superliga history. The past seven seasons at AGF, where he served as both key player and captain, cemented his status as one of the league’s defining figures.
His role at Brondby will extend beyond the pitch. The club has been direct about what they expect from him heading into the upcoming season.
“Patrick comes in as a perfect complement to the group of strikers we already have. On the field, with his physique, his experience, and his presence in the field, he has some qualities that we need. But it is not least as a leader and role model that he must make a difference,” says football director Julius Ohnesorge.
Mortensen is aligned with that vision.
“The plan that Julius and the rest of the team have laid out really appeals to me. Being able to come back and contribute a lot of experience, hopefully play a lot of minutes, and be able to help the young boys,” says Patrick Mortensen.
His influence on Brondby’s younger players will be a central part of his contribution. At 36, Mortensen brings a profile that blends Superliga pedigree with championship experience — a combination the club is banking on as they build for next season.
