Dota 2 The International is the largest esports event in Dota 2's competitive lifecycle - and just the esports world in general. The culmination of the yearly international competitions, Dota 2 TI is unmatched in its scale. With hundreds of professional players, dozens of teams, and tens of millions in prize money, it's a fitting end to the yearly Dota Pro Circuit competition. Dota 2 The International betting has become as widespread and popular as betting on the football World Cup. The International 2022 begins on 8th of October - but its betting markets open way sooner!
However, The International betting is a lot trickier due to the immense complexity of the title, the sheer amount of different interactions, and all the specific regional differences at play. Fret not, though: our team at TIPS.GG has prepared this Dota The International betting guide. We'll cover everything related to it: from esports markets and best esports odds, best betting sites, and even The International betting predictions.

Dota 2 The International Overview
For most gamers, TI truly needs no introduction. But if you need a refresher, The International is an annual Dota 2 esports event. It is the conclusion of the Dota Pro Circuit: an international pro circuit that spans over the entire year and includes many different regional and international tournaments.
The International has over a decade of history; the series began in 2011 and has only grown in scale and popularity since then. The International 2022 includes twenty teams competing for a prize pool of more than ten million USD at the moment.
The prize pool receives more attention. The International boasts such incredible prize money (for instance, TI 2021 has a prize pool of over forty million USD) thanks to it being partially crowdfunded with in-game purchases. The event's initial prize pool is always $1,600,000 USD, but the 25% of Dota 2's in-game Battle Pass sales go straight to increasing that pool.
The event includes all the legendary and highest qualified teams of the Dota 2 esports scene. Huge names like Team Spirit, OG, PSG.LGD, Fnatic, TSM, Royal Never Give Up, beastcoast, BOOM Esport, and many others will be representing their banners on the highest stage of TI 2022.
The International 2022 Schedule And Format
The event is separated into two stages: Groups and the Main Event.
The Group Stage begins on October 15th. The twenty participants are divided into two groups of ten, and play matches in a Single Round Robin format.
Round Robin is a format where teams face each other X amount of times. For example, a Single Round Robin means the teams will play against one another one time, Double Round Robin - two times, and so on.
The top four teams in each Group will advance directly into the main stage. The teams placed 5-8th will advance to the Lower Bracket. The remaining teams will be sent packing home.
The Main Stage begins on October 20th. The remaining sixteen teams will play through a Double Elimination gauntlet that will culminate in the Grand Finals on the 30th of October.
The International Betting Options
We've been describing the event itself enough; now, let's pay more attention to The International betting. Thankfully, Dota 2's status as a legendary title grants it exceptional privileges: the vast majority of bookmakers will heavily prioritize featuring Dota events first and foremost. Obviously, this includes The International.

The International 2019 Venue
While it's easy to find Dota betting, spicing things up with more specific types of bets makes it all the more interesting. Dota 2's inherent complexity opens the door to many different betting markets beyond the simply Outrights/Match Outcome. Let's take a look at some of the most interesting examples.
Roshan Claimed
Roshan is an extremely powerful neutral objective on the map. The team that slays it can receive powerful items such as Aegis of the Immortal (grants a revive to its holder). Since this objective is extremely important, the teams will compete against one another to claim it. This bet has multiple variants: for instance, "which team will claim the first Roshan," or "which team will claim most Roshans," etc.
Team To Destroy First Tower/Barracks
While the main objective of a Dota 2 match is to destroy the enemy Ancient, there's many other structures in the way. The teams' bases are protected by Towers. Destroying enemy Barracks (Melee and Ranged, two Barracks per lane) causes an upgraded version of creeps to appear.
Creeps are the non-playable characters that belong to a team. They spawn at set intervals and march down the lane. If the enemy team kills them, they get gold and experience - so don't let them do it too much!

Team To Get First Blood
The bonus gold awarded by the very first kill of the game is a staple of the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) genre. Teams pay utmost attention to securing this pseudo-objective; bettors attempt to guess which competitor will successfully claim it.
In addition to bets on in-game events like taking objectives, there's also a huge niche of prop bets. In this type of bet, the players wager on things that do not necessarily result in a win.
Score Over/Under
In this type of bet, the bettors are presented with an arbitrary number chosen by the bookie (for instance, 20 kills). Then, the players must choose whether the in-game score will be over or under this number.

Other Statistics-Related Bets
Usually, the Dota 2 bet sites will have many other options regarding in-game statistics. Things like KDA, farm, Total Gold or Gold Per Minute, damage deals and taken - all are tracked, and all can be wagered on. The possibilities are truly vast!
In addition to Dota 2 cash betting, some esports betting sites allow users to engage in Dota 2 item betting. This type of wagering introduces some new betting markets but largely operates the same as the classic, real-money esports betting.
The International Teams & Past Winners
It wouldn't make much sense to consider The International betting without looking at the teams we wager. With TI being the biggest and the highest tier event out of all Dota Pro Circuit, only the best of the best can even step foot on its stage. We've mentioned the participants briefly above, but now let's take a closer look at the Dota 2 The International participants.
Invited Teams
There are two ways a team can get to participate in the international matches of The International. A team can get an invite based on their international standing on the DPC ladder or past The International performance, or qualify through the regional gauntlets.

PSG.LGD
A titan of Dota - and many other different esports titles - PSG.LGD's #1 spot at the DPC leaderboard earns it a well-deserved slot in The International 2022. It's worth paying attention to this top-tier Chinese team: they are the grand-finalists of The International 2021 and 2018. Their last year's performance earned them more than $5 000 000 in winnings on TI. Consider betting on TI Dota 2 matches of theirs!

OG
The OGs of the Dota 2 esports scene, OG is a legendary multi-national team with two Aegises (or TI golds, for simplicity) under their belt. OG has been on a roll in 2022, claiming two golds in ESL One Malaysia & Stockholm. Definitely worthy contenders for the #1 spot. As they're most titled team in The International

Team Spirit
The champions of The International 2021, Team Spirit come into the event to defend their title. They have no intention of slowing down or losing their form, as demonstrated by PGL Arlington Major, where they've claimed gold. Not uncommon to find an esports bookmaker that considers them the favorites of TI11.

beastcoast
The South American team has carved their way through the DPC circuit to secure themselves a slot in The International 2022. Don't let their unassuming past results fool you: the team has gone toe-to-toe with incredible talents such as OG in their recent matches. Beastcoast definitely deserves their spot on TI 2022.

Team Aster
A Chinese team coming to The International as the 5th DPC seed. Team Aster was formed in 2018, and has been a consistent contender for international events.

Thunder Awaken
A South American team coming to TI as the 6th seed, Thunder Awaken is a regional powerhouse. They've seen some action on the international scene, as well: taking a map off OG during ESL One Malaysia 2022 is not a bad start.

BOOM Esports
2022 marks the first entrance to The International for this OCE team. While the team has been on the absolute roll in the T2 events in 2022, The International will be the first true test for BOOM Esports.

TSM
A legendary multi-gaming org is finally entering Dota 2's The International. The organization has acquired the roster of the North American Team Undying in 2022. Their The International 2021 showing wasn't too hot, but they're back with a vengeance.

Tundra Esports
Another freshly established lineup, Tundra Esports, entered the Dota 2 esports scene in 2021.

Gaimin Gladiators
This European organization entered the Dota 2 pro scene in 2022 after signing the Team Tickles roster.

Evil Geniuses
One of the oldest teams on the Dota 2 scene, Evil Geniuses is the champions of TI 2015. That was, of course, a very long time ago, so they need to prove their worth once again.

Fnatic
A legendary British multi-gaming organization, Fnatic secured themselves a bye to The International 2022 in the final 12th invited spot.
The International Dota Betting Guide
All esports tournaments require a lot of research to wager on them effectively. The same applies to TI tenfold - to bet on The International, you need to know a lot about the game itself, the regions, the teams, and individual players. A proper tutorial would take a 500-page book, but let's try and condense all the relevant information into a short and accessible list.
Research The Game
Dota 2 is an incredibly deep and complex game. With a hundred (and counting) heroes and items, and thousands of different spells and active effects, they all combine into a highly complex game where no two matches are the same. While it's quite difficult to get into Dota 2 compared to other esports betting titles, the payout of making your betting opportunities more accurate is well worth it. Plus, the game includes dozens of different walkthroughs and guides to assist you on your learning journey!
Research Esports Teams
Obviously, it's worth paying attention to teams you're wagering on. Thankfully, this is much easier than learning the game from the ground up - but it has its own challenges, to be sure. Plenty of esports fans and communities can bolster your esports betting knowledge.
Pay Attention To Betting Sites
We have prepared a thorough list of all the best esports betting sites available. If you want to stray outside of our approved lists, remember to pay attention to available betting markets, betting apps for Dota 2, bonuses (like a welcome bonus), variety and safety of payment options, and, of course, the reputation of the gambling site. Additionally, different bookmakers may offer different Dota 2 odds on the same event - make sure to browse them regularly to grab the best deal.
Prepare A Rigid Budget
This step is vital any time you engage in any esports betting. Even the most knowledgeable esports betting analysts are bound to get things wrong sometime. In esports, upsets happen. When Dota 2 cash betting, never bet more than you can afford to lose!
