The 35-year-old arrives with substantial Premier League pedigree, having made 400 appearances in the top flight, scoring 90 goals and recording 38 assists. Welbeck first built his reputation coming through Manchester United‘s academy before a five-year spell at Arsenal, and most recently enjoyed a career revival on the south coast with Brighton.

The signing marks a clear shift in Chelsea’s transfer approach under new manager Xabi Alonso, with the club prioritizing experience over youth in the current window.

Chelsea are also closing in on a second veteran addition, with 36-year-old Jordan Henderson reported to be near completion.
