Six of these teams also played the 2025 Finals. The two newcomers to this edition are both former champions: Czechia, back after edging 2022 winners Switzerland in the only Qualifier tie to go the full five rubbers, and Belgium, who produced the shock of the round by knocking out the 18-time champions USA in Ostend. Wim Fissette’s side had not reached the Finals since 2022.
The absences are just as notable. The USA and seven-time champions Australia both fell in the Qualifiers, opening the door for a nation that has never lifted the trophy.
BJK Cup Finals 2026 Format: How Each Tie Is Decided
The eight-team structure introduced in 2025 — trimmed down from 12 to mirror the Davis Cup Final 8 — carries over unchanged.

Seeding came from the nations rankings, which placed Italy, Great Britain, Ukraine and Spain before the remaining four were drawn against them. Czechia went unseeded — which is why the tournament opens with arguably its strongest team against a British side that has reached three of the last four semi-finals.
Top-seeded Italy, chasing a third straight title, face hosts China in a rematch of last year’s quarter-final in the same building.
Late Withdrawals That Reshaped the Draw
Three of the four seeded nations lost a significant name inside a month, and so did Kazakhstan.
World No. 1 Elena Rybakina withdrew on 18 September, six days after beating Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 in the US Open final for her third major title. The Kazakhstan Tennis Federation confirmed an Achilles injury sustained in Cincinnati had persisted through New York, with Rybakina playing her closing matches on painkillers and requiring at least two weeks of recovery. Yulia Putintseva now leads the team.
Ukraine lost world No. 10 Marta Kostyuk, who confirmed an MRI showed her wrist needed extended rest, with Oleksandra Oliynykova also unavailable. Great Britain are without 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, still recovering from a lower leg injury. Belgium travel without Elise Mertens.
Players to Watch at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals 2026
Linda Noskává is the highest-ranked player in the field at world No. 6 and, with Rybakina absent, the only 2026 Grand Slam champion competing. The 21-year-old beat compatriot Karolína Muchová 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in an all-Czech Wimbledon final to become the youngest champion at the All England Club in 15 years.
Elina Svitolina, world No. 7, arrives on the best run of her second career: titles in Auckland and Rome, a WTA 1000 final in Dubai, and semi-finals at the Australian Open, Indian Wells and the National Bank Open. She has 19 career Billie Jean King Cup singles wins.

Zheng Qinwen carries home hopes after a resurgent US Open, where she came through qualifying and reached the quarter-finals by beating Madison Keys and Świątek. Kateřina Siniaková, meanwhile, is the world No. 1 in doubles with 11 major titles, and has won six trophies in 2026 alone.
Tuesday’s Opener: Czechia v Great Britain
The Finals begin with the tie both nations would probably have avoided. Czechia field Noskává, Muchová, Siniaková, Marie Bouzková and Sára Bejlek — four of them capable of playing singles and doubles, and every one of them inside the world’s top 35.
Muchová’s own 2026 has been the best of her career: a maiden WTA 1000 title in Doha, a first grass crown at Bad Homburg, the US Open mixed doubles title with Jakub Menšík, and a career-high world No. 6 in July. Bouzková has won in Bogotá and Nottingham.
Anne Keothavong’s team — Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Sonay Kartal, 17-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic and Jodie Burrage — start as underdogs, a role that has suited them. They beat Australia away in Melbourne to qualify, with Stojsavljevic upsetting Talia Gibson on debut. Kartal plays her first tournament in six months.
This is the eighth meeting between the nations in the competition, with Czechia leading the head-to-head 4-3 after a 3-2 win in the 2022 Qualifiers. Play begins at 10:00 UK time.
What Happens to the Teams That Missed Out
The seven nations beaten in the Qualifiers — Australia, Canada, Japan, Poland, Slovenia, Switzerland and the USA — drop into the 2026 BJK Cup Play-offs during the week of 16 November. They will face the seven nations promoted from the three Regional Group I events, with 2027 Qualifiers places at stake.
