Fulham have joined Crystal Palace and Leeds United in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Shea Charles, creating a competitive three-way pursuit for one of the Championship’s most highly-rated young midfielders.
According to Sky Sports, both Fulham and Crystal Palace hold interest in the Northern Ireland international, though neither Premier League club has opened formal talks with Southampton over a potential deal. Leeds remain the most advanced of the three, having already submitted two bids for Charles. Both offers fell short of Southampton’s valuation, yet the Yorkshire club have not walked away and continue working toward an agreement for the 22-year-old.
Charles joined Southampton in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City‘s academy, seeking regular first-team football. He delivered, establishing himself as a central figure in Southampton’s midfield and contributing to eight goals across 38 appearances last season. His efforts could not secure a return to the top flight, with Southampton removed from the play-off final due to a spying controversy involving three clubs. Despite that, his individual performances have drawn serious attention from Premier League sides.
Southampton’s negotiating hand is strengthened by a one-year extension option in Charles’ contract, effectively tying him to the club for another two seasons. That clause allows them to hold firm on their asking price regardless of how many clubs come calling.

Three Clubs, Three Different Motivations
Leeds already carry several midfield options but see Charles as a player who can deepen their rotation and fit into long-term plans. The competition for his signature, though, is real.
Fulham’s interest is tied directly to a positional gap. With Sander Berge the only dedicated defensive midfielder at the club, Charles’ composure in possession, defensive work rate, and positional versatility make him a practical target rather than a speculative one.
Crystal Palace are tracking the situation closely. The Eagles recently secured Daichi Kamada on a new one-year deal, resolving one area of uncertainty. With Adam Wharton’s future still unresolved, adding a player of Charles’ profile in central midfield carries clear logic for the south London club.
