The summer transfer window may be open, but Premier League clubs and European sides are still scanning the free agent market for quality additions without a transfer fee. From world-class attackers to dependable defenders, the pool of unattached players this summer is one of the deepest in recent memory.
Free Agent Goalkeepers
Mathew Ryan
Last club: Levante | Salary: £28,000 p/w | Age: 34
Ryan has been well-travelled since his last Premier League stint, logging time in Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, and France. He spent the 2025-26 season with Levante, but the club declined to activate the extension option on his contract.
Sergio Rico
Last club: Al-Gharafa | Salary: £28,000 p/w | Age: 32
Formerly of Fulham and PSG, Rico missed more than a year of action after a serious horse-riding injury in 2023. He returned with Al-Gharafa in Qatar, but terminated his contract after being omitted from their AFC Champions League squad.
Neto
Last club: Botafogo | Salary: N/A | Age: 37
The former Bournemouth keeper, who had a loan spell as backup at Arsenal, terminated his contract with Botafogo after just one year.
Steven Benda
Last club: Fulham | Salary: £11,000 p/w | Age: 27
Benda had loan stints with Millwall and Feyenoord in the final year of his Fulham contract, never making a Premier League appearance for the club.
Orjan Nyland
Last club: Sevilla | Salary: £20,000 p/w | Age: 35
Former Aston Villa and Reading keeper Nyland served as Norway’s first choice at the World Cup, during which his Sevilla contract officially expired. He had been at the Spanish club since a 2023 move from RB Leipzig.

Carvajal is a Real Madrid legend with over 450 appearances and six Champions League titles to his name. He has made clear his intention to keep playing:
“I’ll keep playing, that’s sure for me. We’ll see what the best options are for me and my family, and based on that, I’ll make the decision.”
Kevin Mbabu
Last club: Midtjylland | Salary: £14,000 p/w | Age: 31
Previously at Fulham and Leicester City‘s Premier League rivals Newcastle, Mbabu spent two years with Midtjylland, ending his time there with a Danish Cup winner’s medal.
Joel Veltman
Last club: Brighton | Salary: £50,000 p/w | Age: 34
Veltman departs Brighton after six years, having arrived from Ajax for £900,000. A reliable operator across his time on the south coast.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Last club: Ajax | Salary: £22,000 p/w | Age: 27
Injuries cut short Tomiyasu’s Arsenal career, and his subsequent spell with Ajax was brief. Still only 27 and capable of playing across the back line, he represents genuine value if fitness concerns can be satisfied. Crystal Palace have held talks with him and invited him in for training.
Ricardo Pereira

Pereira was once among the better right-backs outside the top six, but Leicester City‘s back-to-back relegations made his exit inevitable. Retaining him into League One was never a realistic option.

John Stones

One of the most decorated players from Manchester City‘s era of dominance, Stones made 295 appearances for the club. Injuries remain a concern for any potential suitor, including his former club Everton. Inter Milan are currently leading the race for his signature.
David Alaba
Last club: Real Madrid | Salary: £374,000 p/w | Age: 34
Alaba arrived at Real Madrid as a high-profile free agent five years ago and departs in similar fashion. Injury difficulties and age mean he may need to drop a level, with MLS or Saudi Pro League clubs the most probable destinations.
Diogo Leite
Last club: Union Berlin | Salary: £25,000 p/w | Age: 27
Union Berlin have confirmed Leite’s exit following the departure of Danilho Doekhi to Lazio on a free. The 27-year-old Porto academy product spent four seasons in Germany and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Adam Webster
Last club: Brighton | Salary: £55,000 p/w | Age: 31
Webster served Brighton for seven years after leaving Bristol City for the top flight in 2019.
Pablo Mari

The former Arsenal defender spent six months with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, but his contract has not been renewed. Prior to that, he appeared for Udinese, Monza, and Fiorentina in Serie A.

Dennis Cirkin

Cirkin was part of Sunderland‘s rise from League One back to the Premier League, making nine top-flight appearances before his release. The former Spurs academy player said on his departure:
“To represent you, and to wear this badge over 100 times, has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. When I look back, I won’t remember the statistics. I’ll remember the heart and soul of our community. The feeling of a whole city behind one team. What we built back up together.”
Raphael Guerreiro
Last club: Bayern Munich | Salary: £133,000 p/w | Age: 32
Guerreiro made just under 100 appearances for Bayern Munich across three seasons after joining on a free from Borussia Dortmund. Bayer Leverkusen and clubs in his native Portugal have been mentioned as possible next steps.
Tyrell Malacia
Last club: Manchester United | Salary: £75,000 p/w | Age: 26
Malacia managed just 28 Premier League appearances across four years at Manchester United, including only three outings after returning from a loan at PSV last summer.
Oleksandr Zinchenko

Zinchenko lasted just half a season with Ajax after leaving Arsenal, making two Eredivisie appearances before an ACL injury ended his stint. Any interested club will need to carry out a full fitness assessment.

Seven Bundesliga titles in eight seasons with Bayern make Goretzka one of the most experienced free agents available. With Germany eliminated from the World Cup, he can now focus on finding his next club.
Julian Brandt
Last club: Borussia Dortmund | Salary: £116,000 p/w | Age: 30
Brandt scored more than 50 goals across seven years with Dortmund. Having only just turned 30, he should attract interest from a wide range of clubs. Leeds have been in talks for the German international, with Real Sociedad also in the frame.
Franck Kessie

Kessie brings senior experience at Atalanta, AC Milan, and Barcelona. With his 30th birthday not until December and the Ivory Coast’s World Cup campaign behind him, a return to Italy has been touted.

Bissouma turns 30 this summer after eight years in the Premier League split between Brighton and Tottenham. His next destination is yet to be confirmed.
Free Agent Wingers
Mohamed Salah

Liverpool are allowing Salah to depart on a free just one year after a major contract renewal, with his final season not matching his earlier standards at the club. The quality of a world-class goal-getter remains, whether his destination ends up being Saudi Arabia or elsewhere.
Riyad Mahrez

The former Manchester City winger has been released by Al-Ahli and recently retired from international duty with Algeria. At 35 and on a salary that few clubs outside the Gulf can match, his options are limited.
Raheem Sterling

After his Chelsea contract was terminated, Sterling spent a few months at Feyenoord, failing to score across eight appearances. What comes next for the former England international is far from clear.
Jadon Sancho

Dusan Vlahovic

Vlahovic stands out as the most appealing free-agent striker of the summer. The 26-year-old scored 68 goals in four and a half seasons at Juventus and has reportedly been offered to Barcelona, with Besiktas also linked.
Mauro Icardi
Last club: Galatasaray | Salary: £124,000 p/w | Age: 33
Once among the most coveted strikers in Europe, the former Inter Milan and PSG forward is available after four years at Galatasaray, where he scored 77 goals. A return to Italian football has been mentioned.
Bamba Dieng
Last club: Lorient | Salary: £15,000 p/w | Age: 26
Dieng delivered the best scoring season of his career at Lorient, netting 15 times. Championship clubs have been credited with interest, but his output could easily translate to a top division in Europe.
Anthony Martial

The former Manchester United forward spent one season in Mexico with Monterrey but scored just once.
Vincent Janssen
