Al Ahly have been dealt a major blow in their 2025 Club World Cup campaign as midfield dynamo Emam Ashour has been ruled out of the tournament following a confirmed broken collarbone.
2025United StatesThe 27-year-old sustained the injury during Al Ahly’s opening fixture — a high-stakes clash against Inter Miami that ended in a goalless stalemate. Ashour was visibly distraught as he was forced off the pitch in the early minutes of the match, having fallen awkwardly on his shoulder after a promising start.
Despite initial treatment on the sidelines and a brief return to play — during which he missed a golden one-on-one opportunity — Ashour could not continue and signaled for a substitution in the 14th minute. He was replaced by Ahmed Sayed (Zizo).
Club physician Dr. Ahmed Gaballah confirmed via Al Ahly’s official X account: “Medical examinations on Emam Ashour in a Miami hospital showed he sustained a broken collarbone, and he will miss the remaining matches in the Club World Cup.”
This is a harsh twist for the former Egyptian Premier League top scorer, who also endured a serious shoulder injury in 2024 while representing Egypt at international level. His absence leaves a tactical void for the Red Devils as they aim to push deeper into the tournament.
With Ashour out, attention now turns to how coach Marcel Koller will adjust his midfield strategy in upcoming matches — especially with pressure mounting after the tepid draw against Inter Miami.
