Inter Milan Accelerate Push for Djed Spence as Tottenham Set €35M Price Tag

18.07.2026, 03:58

Inter Milan are stepping up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur right-back Djed Spence, with the Serie A champions prepared to exceed their initial transfer budget to secure the 25-year-old Englishman this summer. The move would address a pressing defensive need left by two departures at right wing-back.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham are demanding €35 million for Spence. Inter had originally targeted Anan Khalaili for €25 million, but that deal collapsed following issues with the player’s medical checks. Before that, Marco Palestra was on their radar until he chose Chelsea. With both options off the table, the Nerazzurri have identified Spence as the primary alternative and are ready to spend more than expected to get the deal done.

Spence’s Path at Tottenham

Spence joined Tottenham from Middlesbrough in July 2022 on the back of a standout loan at Nottingham Forest. His early years at the club were difficult. Three loan spells followed before he finally secured a regular place in the first team. Once established, he became one of the more consistent performers at Spurs across two seasons marked by relegation battles, accumulating over 3,000 minutes across 44 appearances in all competitions in the 2025/26 campaign.

Why Inter Are Targeting Spence

The logic behind Inter’s interest is straightforward. Denzel Dumfries was sold to Real Madrid earlier in the window, and Matteo Darmian departed as a free agent after declining to renew his contract. That leaves Inter without a recognized right wing-back heading into the new season.

Spence fits the profile. He can operate on both flanks, adding positional flexibility. He also carries prior Serie A experience from a loan stint at Genoa, meaning the tactical and environmental adjustment would be minimal. For a club in urgent need of cover in that corridor, those factors carry weight.

At €35 million, the fee is higher than Inter initially planned to spend on this position. The fact they are willing to meet that valuation signals how seriously they are treating the recruitment gap. Follow TipsGG for the latest updates as this transfer develops.
