Chris Paul is heading back to where it all clicked a decade ago Los Angeles. The 40-year-old point guard has signed a one-year, $3.6 million deal with the Clippers, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes, setting the stage for what may be his final campaign in the league.
After publicly flirting with retirement, Paul is opting for one last dance in Southern California, rejoining the franchise he led from 2011 to 2017. And this isn’t just a farewell tour this Clippers squad is built for a title run. With the acquisitions of Bradley Beal and John Collins, Los Angeles has made its championship intentions crystal clear.
A 12-time All-Star, Paul is still chasing the one thing that has eluded him: an NBA title. He spent last season with the Spurs, where he inked a one-year, $10.4 million deal and embraced a veteran leadership role. In San Antonio, he mentored rising talents like Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Jeremy Sochan while still producing, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists across all 82 starts.
But this move isn’t just about basketball. Paul’s decision came down to family.
“It’s with my family more than anything”
he told The Pat McAfee Show in June.
“My son just turned 16, my daughter is 12. The past six seasons, I’ve lived without them… it’s a little different.”
Known across the league as the “Point God,” Paul hasn’t suited up in SoCal since his Clippers exit in 2017. Now, he’s back older, wiser, and still deadly with the rock in his hands. With a title in reach and family within arm’s length, this season could be the perfect curtain call.
