The Cleveland Cavaliers have landed Peyton Watson in a four-team deal involving the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Washington Wizards, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The deal sends Watson to Cleveland, Max Strus to the Clippers, and an unprotected 2031 Cavaliers first-round pick along with a 2032 Kings second-rounder to the Nuggets. In a connected move, the Cavaliers are sending Tre Mann, a 2027 second-round pick (via LAC), and cash to Washington for Cam Whitmore. The Wizards then route Julian Reese to Denver, where the Nuggets intend to waive him from his two-way deal.

Full Trade Breakdown

Cavaliers receive: Peyton Watson, Cam Whitmore
Clippers receive: Max Strus
Nuggets receive: 2031 first-round pick (via CLE), 2032 second-round pick (via SAC)
Wizards receive: Tre Mann, 2027 second-round pick (via LAC), cash considerations

Watson’s Breakout Season Sets Up New Deal

A late first-round selection in the 2022 NBA Draft, Watson turned heads this past season, averaging 14.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game across 54 appearances. He completed his four-year rookie contract and, despite extension offers from Denver, his camp opted to pursue free agency. Watson will sign a new four-year, $88 million deal with Cleveland.

His playoff availability was cut short by a hamstring injury sustained in February, which was re-aggravated in April. The Nuggets, who finished third in the Western Conference on the back of a 12-game win streak, were eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in six games in the first round.

Strus and Mann Move On

Strus spent three seasons in Cleveland as a fixture in the starting rotation before injuries derailed his final year with the club. A left foot Jones fracture limited him to 12 games last season, during which he averaged 11.2 points per game. He heads to the Clippers as a 7-year veteran looking to reclaim his form.

Mann, the No. 18 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, backed up the point guard spot with the Charlotte Hornets over the past three seasons. He averaged 5.5 points in 53 games last year, though his best campaign came in 2024-25 when he put up 14.1 points per game. Mann was originally dealt to Cleveland for Dennis Schröder before being rerouted to Washington as part of this deal.
