Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is demanding the NBA either hand down severe punishment to the Los Angeles Clippers or scrap the salary cap entirely, following reports of a second undisclosed sponsorship deal tied to Kawhi Leonard.
Leonard allegedly held a deal with video board company Daktronics, which the Clippers used during construction of the Intuit Dome. A high-level arena employee described the previously unknown contract as “1,000% a way to circumvent the salary cap.”

Green made those comments Thursday on his podcast. He pushed further, questioning the logic of maintaining a salary cap in a league where franchise valuations have reached record levels.
“I think this raises the question about the salary cap. We’re playing in a league where a team just sold for $12.5 billion.”
“Let the punishment be getting rid of the salary cap. If you can make $2.5 billion on a sale in a year, what are we doing with the salary cap anyway?”
The NBA’s investigation into the Clippers for allegedly circumventing the salary cap to pay Leonard extra money remains open. Both Leonard and the Clippers have denied that he held a $28-million “no-show” endorsement deal with Aspiration, a now-defunct green banking company. The law firm conducting the league’s probe has since reported a second sponsorship deal linked to Leonard.
