Adidas has officially unveiled TRIONDA, a ball designed to reflect the historic nature of the first-ever World Cup hosted by three nations: Canada, Mexico and the United States.
From its bold visual identity to its advanced connected technology, TRIONDA is more than just a football. It is a statement piece for a tournament set to redefine the global game.
What Does TRIONDA Mean?
The name TRIONDA blends two ideas into one identity.
“Tri” represents the three host nations, while “Onda” — meaning “wave” in Spanish and Portuguese — reflects movement, rhythm and momentum. Together, the name translates loosely to “three waves,” symbolising unity between Canada, Mexico and the United States as they come together to stage football’s biggest event.
That concept flows directly into the ball’s visual design and construction.
Design and Visual Identity
TRIONDA features a predominantly white base, overlaid with vibrant red, green and blue accents — the colours of the three host nations. These colours move across the surface in fluid, wave-like patterns, reinforcing the meaning behind the ball’s name.
For the first time, Adidas has introduced a four-panel construction with flowing geometry. The panels connect to form a subtle triangle at the centre of the ball, a direct nod to the tri-national hosting of the tournament.
National iconography is also embedded into the design:
A maple leaf represents Canada, an eagle symbolises Mexico, and a star stands for the United States. These details appear both in layered graphics and as embossed textures, visible up close and tangible on contact.
Gold accents complete the look, paying tribute to the FIFA World Cup Trophy and underlining the prestige of the competition.

Built for Performance: How TRIONDA Plays
Design aside, performance remains the priority — and Adidas has placed heavy emphasis on how TRIONDA behaves in real match conditions.
The four-panel construction features intentionally deep seams, creating evenly distributed drag as the ball moves through the air. The result is improved flight stability, cleaner trajectories and more predictable movement — a direct response to criticism faced by past World Cup balls like the Jabulani.
Embossed surface textures also improve grip when striking or dribbling, particularly in wet or humid conditions — an important factor given the wide range of climates across the 2026 host cities.
Tested for Every Climate
According to Adidas, TRIONDA is the most tested World Cup ball in history.
The tournament will be played across 16 cities, from the cooler climate of Vancouver to the heat and altitude of Mexico City. To prepare, Adidas conducted extensive laboratory testing before moving into real-world trials across multiple host locations.
Professional players from MLS and Liga MX took part in field testing, while scientists at Loughborough University examined the ball in wind tunnels to analyse aerodynamics and consistency.
The goal was clear: create a ball that performs reliably regardless of temperature, humidity or altitude.
Connected Ball Technology Returns
Like the Al Rihla used at the 2022 World Cup, TRIONDA features Connected Ball technology — but with further refinements.
A state-of-the-art 500Hz motion sensor chip is embedded within one of the side panels, collecting real-time data on every touch, movement and strike. This data is transmitted instantly to the video assistant referee system.
The technology enhances decision-making on tight offside calls, handball incidents and contested moments, while also opening the door to deeper performance analytics, including speed loads and touch frequency during dribbles.
When Will TRIONDA Be Used — and How Much Does It Cost?
National teams that qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals will receive TRIONDA for training in the months leading up to the tournament.
The first official match to feature the ball will be played on 11 June 2026 at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, marking the opening game of the World Cup.
For fans, the Adidas TRIONDA will be available to purchase from 2 October 2025, with a retail price of approximately $170 USD (€150).

Adidas Football General Manager Sam Handy described TRIONDA as “the most visually fun FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created,” emphasising the balance between aesthetics, craftsmanship and performance.
With its cultural symbolism, advanced technology and refined on-field behaviour, TRIONDA is built to become an icon. Just as the tournament itself will redefine the World Cup, this ball is designed to define its moments — from long-range screamers to last-minute winners.
