The world’s top-ranked squad, Vitality, held firm under pressure to edge past NAVI 2-0 and book their place in the BLAST.tv Austin Major semi-finals. It was a series packed with tension, comebacks, and a few clutch moments that turned the tide decisively in the French-led team’s favor.

MOUZMirage Madness
Vitality opened strong on Mirage, securing the pistol and nearly fumbling the conversion — until William “mezii” Merriman pulled off a 1v3 clutch that set the tone early. But NAVI weren’t there to roll over. With Mihai “iM” Ivan and Ihor “w0nderful” Zhdanov powering their CT side, the Ukrainian giants wrestled back control and ended the half tied 6-6.
Post-break, NAVI’s pistol-round win sparked hopes of a lead extension, but those faded quickly. Vitality found their stride once their economy stabilized, steamrolling the CT side off the back of a few momentum-shifting rounds from Shahar “flameZ” Shushan. Mirage ended with Vitality snatching the map in confident fashion.
Vitality Hold on Nuke
With NAVI’s 25% win rate on Nuke this year looming, the odds were already against them. Vitality stormed ahead with a 7-3 lead, showing poise and aggression. Yet, unforced errors on their CT side allowed NAVI to rally, recovering from a 5-10 halftime deficit to take it the distance. But just when overtime seemed inevitable, mezii struck again — this time with a precise quad-kill to shut the door.
“Of course we have a bit of a mental edge, but it’s a Major and you never know what can happen,” said Dan “apEX” Madesclaire on facing MOUZ. “The last six matches will not count tomorrow.”
Sixth Time’s the Charm for MOUZ?
Vitality now face MOUZ in their seventh head-to-head of the season. The reigning No.1 has a perfect 6-0 record against the international roster, but MOUZ coach Dennis “sycrone” Nielsen wasn’t shy about pointing out a key detail: “We had an extra day to prep — maybe that helps us this time.”
The MongolZ Shock FaZe to Reach Semis
Earlier in the day, The MongolZ stunned home-crowd favorites FaZe with a 2-0 win, extending their deepest Major run to date. This result knocks FaZe out in 5th-8th place and ends Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s short comeback arc on a sour note.
Mirage saw The MongolZ capitalize on precise timing and overwhelming CT control, with Finn “karrigan” Andersen the only FaZe player making an impact. Anubis was tighter. Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski kept FaZe in the fight with a crucial 1v2 clutch and a late triple-kill, tying the game at 11-11.
But when it mattered, Usukhbayar “910” Banzragch came up big — twice shutting down FaZe’s B-site pushes with triple-kills that sealed the deal. The MongolZ are now set to face Brazilian dark horses paiN in Saturday’s second semi-final.
s1mple’s Stumble
All eyes were on s1mple, making his first stage appearance in two years. But the CS legend looked rusty, finishing at the bottom of the scoreboard with a 0.80 rating. Whether it’s the last time we see him in a FaZe jersey remains uncertain. “It was a hail mary,” karrigan said post-match, hinting at financial barriers to retaining s1mple.
“The whole year has been really bad,” the FaZe IGL admitted. “For the future, a lot of things to think about.”
Looking Ahead
With Vitality vs MOUZ and paiN vs The MongolZ now set, the Austin Major is primed for an explosive semi-final round. Vitality look to keep their unbeaten streak alive, while The MongolZ aim to continue their Cinderella story. Either way, Saturday is shaping up to be a defining day in CS2’s Major history.
