France midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been ruled out of Saturday’s World Cup last-16 match against Paraguay with a thigh injury, according to a report by French daily L’Equipe published on Friday.
The 26-year-old started three of France’s four matches at the tournament. Manu Kone is expected to step in as his replacement for the Philadelphia fixture.
France reached the knockout stage by topping Group I with a perfect record, winning all three group-stage matches before a commanding 3-0 win over Sweden in the round of 32.
The French Football Federation was not immediately available to respond to a Reuters request for comment on Tchouameni’s fitness status.
