Multiple sources have confirmed that the Danish organisation is closing in on a deal to sign Monte rifler Gytis “ryu” Glušauskas, with negotiations ongoing to secure the Lithuanian’s immediate transfer ahead of the new CS2 season.
The move comes as Astralis continue their aggressive reshuffle following the arrival of Swedish AWPer Love “phzy” Smidebrant from 9INE, with ryu identified as the final piece needed to complete the lineup.
Personal terms agreed, Monte negotiations ongoing
According to sources, Astralis have already reached an agreement on personal terms with ryu. The remaining hurdle lies in talks with Monte, who are currently negotiating an early release from the player’s contract, which is set to expire on March 1.
Time is very much a factor. Astralis are scheduled to compete at BLAST Bounty, the first major tournament of the season, which begins on January 12. Securing ryu ahead of that event would allow the team crucial preparation time with a locked-in roster.

Vitalityryu’s breakout year puts him on Astralis’ radar
ryu has been part of the Monte organisation since November 2023, initially joining their academy setup before earning his way back into the main roster. His second promotion proved decisive.
Throughout 2025, the 21-year-old delivered a genuine breakout campaign, posting a 1.13 average rating across all competitions and establishing himself as one of the most promising riflers outside the tier-one elite.
That progress was reflected in HLTV’s most recent prospect report, where ryu climbed six places to land at No. 22, further underlining his rapid development and growing reputation within the scene.
Astralis’ international pivot continues
The pursuit of ryu fits neatly into Astralis’ wider strategic shift. The organisation committed to an international direction at the end of last season, parting ways with long-time cornerstones Nicolai “device” Reedtz and Emil “Magisk” Reif.
Device, now 30, is reportedly on the brink of joining 100 Thieves, closing the door on one of the most iconic eras in Astralis history.
Off the server, Astralis are also reinforcing their infrastructure. Sources indicate that an agreement has been reached with former Endpoint captain Max “MiGHTYMAX” Heath, who is set to join the organisation’s coaching staff as an assistant coach.
All eyes on the final signature
With personal terms settled and talks progressing, ryu’s move to Astralis now feels less like a question of “if” and more a matter of “when”.
If the deal is completed in time, Astralis will enter BLAST Bounty with a refreshed roster, a new identity, and one of the scene’s most intriguing young riflers ready to prove himself on a bigger stage.
