Orlando City has officially secured the services of French forward Antoine Griezmann on a designated player contract. The 35-year-old veteran will transition to Major League Soccer following the conclusion of his current campaign with Atlético Madrid.
Griezmann signed a two-year agreement lasting through the 2027-2028 season, with an additional club option for the following year. This move remains subject to standard medical evaluations, the arrival of his International Transfer Certificate, and P-1 visa approval. He remains with the Spanish side until the MLS summer transfer window opens on July 13.
I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City. From my first conversations with the Club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me.
During his distinguished career, Griezmann has accumulated 298 goals and 132 assists throughout 792 professional appearances. His resume includes stints at Barcelona and Real Sociedad, alongside his long-standing tenure in the Spanish capital. He has captured the 2017-18 UEFA Europa League, the 2018 UEFA Super Cup, and the 2014 Spanish Supercopa with Atlético Madrid. His trophy cabinet also features the 2020-21 Copa del Rey with Barcelona and the 2009-10 LaLiga 2 title with Real Sociedad.
Current production for Atlético Madrid stands at 13 goals and four assists across all competitions this season. Orlando City owner Mark Wilf described the acquisition as a landmark moment for the organization. General manager Ricardo Moreira highlighted the forward’s intelligence and championship pedigree as factors that will strengthen the squad.
The Frenchman’s international record is equally impressive. He served as a pivotal figure in France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup victory and their 2022 runner-up finish. He retired from international football in 2024 with 44 goals to his name. Follow all major league transfer news on TipsGG.
