West Ham United are considering a sensational reunion with former captain Scott Parker as pressure mounts on current boss Graham Potter. The Burnley manager has been discussed internally as part of a shortlist also containing Nuno Espírito Santo, Slaven Bilić, and Gary O’Neil.
Potter on the Brink
Potter has endured a nightmare start, with four defeats in five Premier League games, early Carabao Cup elimination, and West Ham languishing in the relegation zone. A 2-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend intensified unrest, with supporters staging anti-board protests at the London Stadium.
The former Chelsea boss has won just six of 25 games since taking charge in January, and upcoming fixtures against Everton and Arsenal could be decisive for his future.
Parker Identified as Candidate
Parker, 44, guided Burnley back into the Premier League last season, finishing second in the Championship behind Leeds United. He has top-flight experience with both Fulham and Bournemouth, though West Ham would need to pay compensation to lure him away from Turf Moor.
Despite that obstacle, Parker’s deep-rooted connection with the Hammers — where he captained the club, won three straight Player of the Year awards, and delivered one of the club’s most iconic half-time team talks during the 2010/11 survival fight — makes him an attractive option for the board.
Other Options on the Table
Bilić, another former West Ham boss and defender, is understood to be willing to return even on a short-term basis until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Nuno, a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest, is seen as a strong candidate thanks to his defensive organisation and man-management skills. Both would be cheaper hires than Parker.
Fan Pressure Mounting
Roughly 3,000 fans protested outside the London Stadium last weekend, calling for the resignation of chairman David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady. The board is reluctant to drag out another managerial saga but may be forced into action if results don’t improve immediately.
Potter remains in charge for now, but with Everton and Arsenal up next, his time may be running out — and Parker could be waiting in the wings for a sensational return.
