Raphinha Forced Off at Halftime During Brazil Friendly Amid Fresh Injury Concern
Raphinha has become the focal point of injury concern for Barcelona after sustaining a fresh setback while on international duty with Brazil. The winger started in Brazil’s friendly against France and performed well early on, but the match took a troubling turn before halftime when he was substituted due to discomfort in his right thigh.
According to the Brazilian Football Confederation, the decision was made as a precaution. Medical tests are scheduled to determine the exact severity of the issue. Carlo Ancelotti, Brazil’s coach, explained the substitution after the match.
“Raphinha played very well, but then he had a problem at the end of the first half and we had to change him. His muscle bothered him a little and I think they are going to evaluate him tomorrow,” Ancelotti said.
Pattern of Recurring Issues
This marks the second occurrence of muscle discomfort affecting Raphinha’s right leg. The Brazilian has already missed multiple Barcelona matches in recent weeks due to identical problems. He was withdrawn at halftime against Elche in La Liga and sat out subsequent fixtures against Albacete in the Copa del Rey, Mallorca in La Liga, and Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
The recurrence will heighten alarm within Barcelona’s medical department, particularly given the stakes involved this season.
Critical Timing for Barcelona
Barcelona face a decisive fixture sequence following the international break. Hansi Flick’s squad must contend with a crucial La Liga clash against Atletico Madrid before a high-stakes UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie. A prolonged absence for Raphinha would compound the injury management challenges that have plagued the campaign, leaving Flick with limited options during a pivotal run of matches.
