Hjulmand has spent three years at Estadio Jose Alvalade, contributing 10 goals and 12 assists across 140 appearances and helping Sporting win two Portuguese titles. With two years remaining on his contract, his future has become a consistent subject of speculation. Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha reports that a resolution is expected soon.
The Exit Agreement Explained
According to the report, the 26-year-old reached an understanding with Sporting earlier this year: he would be permitted to leave at the end of the season. That arrangement stemmed from the club blocking his departure during the January transfer window, keeping him available for their Primeira Liga title push. Sporting ultimately finished second, behind Porto, despite securing a Champions League place for next season. That qualification is not expected to alter Hjulmand‘s plans.
What a Transfer Could Cost
Hjulmand carries an official release clause of €80m (£69.78m). With two years left on his deal, activating that figure is considered unrealistic. The report suggests Sporting would entertain offers in the region of €40m (£34.89m).
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City are all identified as potential suitors at that price point, with the latter two clubs particularly active in their search for midfield cover heading into the new campaign.
