k0nfig left Complexity, reportedly signed by Astralis

08.10.2021, 11:48

The Danish professional CS: GO player named Kristian Wienecke, who is better known in the CS: GO community under the nickname k0nfig, reportedly left the roster of Complexity Gaming.

The official announcement came from the Twitter account of one the oldest and most respected multigaming esports organizations in the United States:

The 24-year-old progamer joined one of the most famous North American CS teams, Complexity, in the beginning of November 2019.

Wienecke was signed by the US organization along with the other Bulgarian CS: GO AWPer — Valentin “poizon” Vasilev, who previously was recruited by the Ukrainian organization Windigo Gaming in the CIS region.

k0nfig

k0nfig started his professional CS: GO career in 2015. He played for various prominent CS: GO teams, such as team123, Reason Gaming, originally from United Kingdom, also German SK Gaming, Danish Copenhagen Wolves, Team Dignitas from US, North, and OpTic Gaming.

k0nfig just recently shook the world playing under the COL tag, when his American esports organization picked up first place at the BLAST Premier series event, the BLAST Premier: Spring 2020 European Finals, which was held at the end of June 2020.

During the victorious BLAST tournament, Complexity first managed to beat the OG team from EU. The Complexity Gaming vs OG matchup ended with the 2:1 score in favor of the US squad. In the next round, Complexity Gaming vs Natus Vincere match was also won by the first team.

COL managed to overpower the mighty Na’Vi roster with the 2:1 score. In the next upper bracket finals in the Complexity Gaming vs FaZe Clan game, Complexity were stronger than FaZe team.

In the finals of the BLAST event, the North American team managed to win the Bo3 series against the likes of the Frenchmen from Team Vitality. The Complexity Gaming vs Team Vitality finals ended with the 2:1 score in favor of the American esports organization.

In the result, COL earned $335,000 for their win in the BLAST tournament and also a slot for the next global event — the prestigious $1,000,000 prize pool BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020 championship.

Wienecke earlier finished first at the DreamHack Open championship, the DreamHack Open Summer 2019 event, where his previous OpTic Gaming team managed to beat the Swedish roster of Team Ancient.

The OpTic Gaming vs Ancient grand finals of the DreamHack Summer event featured 2:0 score in favor of the US-based esports organization. Optic won $50,000 for their efforts at the championship, which was held in June 2019.

During the Jonkoping event, OpTic initially finished first in the second group B with two quick wins in the Bo1 series. In the playoffs bracket, the k0nfig’s team was victorious in the OpTic Gaming vs Tricked matchup. The US squad came ahead of the Tricked Esports‘ roster and went on to the grand finals of the DreamHack competition.

Complexity turmoil

The future of the Danish CS: GO professional was unclear, especially due to the recent series of events that took place. k0nfig recently was unlucky enough to seriously hurt his arm, so he was unable to further train with his team and attend any of the professional CS: GO tournaments.

Due to the k0nfig’s necessary inactivity, which began in August 2021, the Complexity organization was actively searching for a potential stand-in for the roster or even for a permanent replacement.

While using one of their stand-ins — Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen in some of the official matches, the COL team competed in the online ESL event, the ESL Pro League Season 14 championship, having limited success.

The US organization on their tournament path in the EPL managed to place third in their second group B, after teams such as OG and also ForZe from Russia.

Complexity then lost to Team Vitality 1:2 in the first rounds of the EPL playoffs, finishing 9-12 place on par with other strong CS: GO teams, such as Fnatic and mousesports, and earning $25,000.

The Complexity organization were recently lucky enough to sign one of the best options available on the market — Marcelo “coldzera” David — the Brazilian CS: GO superstar, who is widely considered among one of the best Counter-Strike players in the world.

We previously covered some of the details about the complex situation with the unexpected turmoil in the American CS: GO organization.

With coldzera recently coming on board, the COL roster already competed in some of the official events, such as the BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2021. Complexity were seeded into group C of the tournament, where in the oppening match they managed to beat the FaZe Clan team with the 2:0 score in their favor.

The COL team were afterwards defeated by the best CIS squad, Natus Vincere, with the 1:2 score in the upper bracket finals of the BLAST event’s third group.

Astralis rumors

There were rumors coming from the insiders on the competitive CS: GO scene, as well as from some of the internet media, such as Norwegian TV 2 Sport, that k0nfig was already signed by the Danish superteam Astralis.

k0nfig himself only jokingly dropped a sort of hint in one of his recent Twitter posts, that he is presumably switching to the competing Riot Gaming’s FPS tite — Valorant. The professional CS: GO player linked the game’s official account and added an exclamation mark:

The famed Danish multigaming esports organization, as well as the professional player himself, did not officially comment on the current situation.
