Vardy Claims Serie A Player of the Month
Jamie Vardy has etched his name into the history books by becoming the first English player to win the Serie A Player of the Month award. The Cremonese striker received the honor for his performances in November, a testament to his enduring quality and impact in Italy.
Vardy featured in three matches for Cremonese last month, finding the net once in a standout display against Juventus. His contributions have not gone unnoticed, with the award combining fan votes and statistical data to determine the winner.
Recognition from Serie A
Luigi de Siervo, Serie A’s chief executive, praised Vardy’s influence, stating:
“Vardy is truly a player from another era. His arrival at Cremonese was greeted with great enthusiasm by all Serie A fans, and Vardy is repaying them with top-level performances, innate leadership and important goals, the result of the competitive spirit and shooting skills that have always distinguished him.”
Since joining the newly promoted side, Vardy has scored four goals in 10 appearances, helping Cremonese secure a respectable ninth-place standing in the league.
From Premier League to Serie A
Last season, Vardy netted nine times in 35 Premier League games for Leicester City, though the Foxes ultimately suffered relegation to the Championship. His transition to Italy has been seamless, bringing his trademark tenacity and goal-scoring prowess to Serie A.
The Serie A Player of the Month award was introduced in 2019, utilizing advanced data tracking to evaluate player performances. The system assesses various metrics, including off-ball movement, decision-making, and contributions to team efficiency.
While Vardy is the first Englishman to win the award, he is not the first to ply his trade in Serie A. Other English players in the league since 2019 include Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek of AC Milan, former Manchester United captain Ashley Young, and Tammy Abraham.
