ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 – All You Need to Know

04.02.2026, 10:41

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is the 10th edition of cricket’s premier T20 tournament. Co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, it marks the return of global T20 cricket to the subcontinent after a decade. India enters as the defending champion, having lifted the 2024 title in the West Indies.

The event will feature 20 teams divided into four groups of five, followed by Super Eights, semi-finals, and the final. Matches will be played across five venues in India and three in Sri Lanka.

Format and Group Structure

Teams will play each other once in their respective groups, with the top two teams advancing to the Super 8 stage. From there, the top two in each Super 8 group move on to the knockout semi-finals and final.

  • Group B: Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Ireland, Oman
  • Group C: England, West Indies, Scotland (replacing Bangladesh), Italy, Nepal

Bangladesh’s withdrawal over security and travel concerns led to Scotland taking their place in Group C.

Neutral Venue Rule for Pakistan

Due to diplomatic agreements between BCCI and PCB, matches involving Pakistan will be played exclusively in Sri Lanka. This arrangement mirrors the hybrid format used in the 2023 Asia Cup and upcoming 2025 Champions Trophy.

If Pakistan reaches the final, it will automatically move to Colombo. The same contingency applies to the first semi-final, preserving both teams’ travel restrictions and ensuring competitive integrity.

Marketing, Ambassadors & Theme

The ICC appointed Rohit Sharma as the official tournament ambassador. The theme song “Feel The Thrill”, composed by Anirudh Ravichander with lyrics by Heisenberg & Raqueeb Alam, dropped on January 30, 2026, ahead of the opening ceremony.

Tickets & Broadcast

Fans can register interest via the ICC website for ticket sales and hospitality packages. Matches will be broadcast globally through ICC’s media partners, with live streaming available on major OTT platforms across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Match Officials

The ICC named a diverse panel of 22 umpires and 6 match referees for the tournament, including top officials from Australia, England, India, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Veteran referee Ranjan Madugalle and Indian icon Javagal Srinath will oversee key fixtures.

Notable Developments

  • Bangladesh Withdrawal: Security and political issues led to Bangladesh’s exit, replaced by Scotland.
  • Pakistan Boycott Warning: PCB signaled potential non-participation in the Feb 15 clash against India, citing “solidarity with Bangladesh.”
  • First-time Qualifier: Italy makes its Men’s T20 World Cup debut, reflecting cricket’s expanding footprint.
