Havertz Targets World Cup Success with Germany After Overcoming Injury Setbacks

Kai Havertz is regaining his peak form following a challenging 12-month period marked by multiple injuries. The Germany forward believes his intensive schedule with Arsenal across three competitions over the coming months will provide ideal preparation for the World Cup.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Germany‘s friendly against Switzerland on Friday, followed by a match against Ghana three days later, Havertz addressed his injury struggles. “I had a tough time. It was not easy for me,” he said.

The 26-year-old suffered his first significant injury in February 2023, sidelining him for three and a half months. After his return, a knee setback derailed his momentum once again. Havertz missed Germany‘s international fixtures throughout 2023 due to these recurring issues.

He returned to action for Arsenal in January after missing since August, and expressed confidence in his physical condition. “I now feel completely fit. I need the one or other game from the start to reach 100 percent but I feel fit to start lasting over 90 minutes,” he stated.

Havertz acknowledged that Arsenal‘s demanding calendar came at precisely the right moment. The Premier League leaders are competing in the league, FA Cup, and Champions League simultaneously. “We have many matches in three competitions. I missed the first six months of the season and I will give it all for the club, and to be able to go with a lot of confidence to the World Cup,” he said. “I want to be successful at this World Cup and lead the way.”

Germany’s World Cup Mission

Germany enters the tournament determined to restore its status as a global football powerhouse after shock group-stage eliminations in 2018 and 2022. The team has not reached a final in any major international tournament since winning the World Cup in 2014.

Germany were drawn in Group E alongside Ecuador, Curacao, and Ivory Coast. The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.

The Germans open their campaign in Houston, Texas, on June 14 against Curacao. They travel to Toronto on June 20 to face Ivory Coast before concluding their group stage in New York on June 25 against Ecuador.
