Five key storylines of WePlay Academy League Season 5

Now is a player break on the competitive scene of CS:GO. The top teams are chilling. Couples who didn’t reach desired results – testing new players and preparing for the second part of the season. And academy teams received a new season of WePlay Academy. Fourteen teams will fight for the title of the world’s best “academy” roster. MOUZ NXT won all four seasons, which played during last year. Many teams tried to take the crown, but the second roster of MOUZ each time was better.

In addition to this storyline, we have more exciting topics within WePlay Academy League. And it’s time to talk about them.

Can BIG.Academy break second place curse?

The second roster of the famous German organization BIG showed good results last season. They took second place two times in a row, in the 3rd season with Krimbo and 4th with k1to. Constant practice at other tournaments allows them to keep in shape and show stable results.
However, they still can’t win against MOUZ NXT. They met in the last season’s grand final but lost without any chance with a score of 0:2.

BIG.Academy is the best team of the last season according to HLTV’s Rating 2.0 (1.16), and they have one of the best young players in Europe – hyped. For them, the victory in Academy League isn’t just a goal. It’s a matter of principle, and winning this tournament can help them to make a huge step forward.

New “Path of Ninja”

The famous Swedish organization Ninjas in Pyjamas has one of the most successful academies in the world. Three players, who played in Young Ninjas, tried themselves on the main roster: LNZ, ztr, and phzy. The original roster members, Sapec and Mann3n, have already played in tier-2 teams, and their career is growing.

Ahead of the 4th season of WePlay Academy League, Young Ninjas kept only ztr from the previous roster and picked four new young talents from Sweden. Despite new blood in the team, Young Ninjas didn’t make playoffs in the Academy League’s history and finished only 5th-6th place.

The new roster of Young Ninjas hasn’t been announced yet, but we know that ztr, adamb, and maxster stayed and will represent the Swedish organization in the season. The storyline around Young Ninjas is the next – can this program produce new promising players who will show themselves in the future, at least in the solid tier-2 teams?

Can FURIA Academy repeat the result of the last season?

The Academy of the famous Brazilian club made massive progress in the 4th season. After the failure in the 3rd, where they won only one map, in the next, FURIA Academy made a playoff appearance and even won against MOUZ NXT with a score of 2:0. Final 3rd place is an excellent result for young Brazilians.

FURIA Academy released André “drop” Abreu, who found his place in the Brazilian team’s main roster and helped them reach the top 8 at Majors twice a row. There is no doubt that a similar story can repeat in the future, and someone from the Academy will be a part of the FURIA.

In the meantime, FURIA Academy has the task of at least going to the playoffs. And to do it will not be so easy.

Do we get a new contender team?

Since the first season of WePlay Academy League, we have a stable top 4. There are MOUZ NXT, BIG.Academy, Young Ninjas, and Fnatic Rising. Yes, some other academies reached the last stage at least once, but this league has more stable teams.

This season, one of the relevant questions is whether we get a new contender team. Competition is always good. It is through competition that teams develop. Can MOUZ NXT win the 5th season of the WePlay Academy League?

Of course, we should talk about MOUZ NXT. This academy roster is the most successful in the history of competitive CS:GO. Despite the roster changes, each composition of MOUZ NXT won the academy league, and that’s cool.

They had some problems last season, but on the other hand, their experience helped them again, and they managed to win the academy league for the fourth time in a row. Of course, everyone is interested, but can they win for the fifth time? We will find out in the coming weeks.
