Champions League Power Rankings: Over and Underperformers After Matchday 5
The fifth matchday of the Champions League delivered drama, with Arsenal and Chelsea defeating Bayern Munich and Barcelona, respectively, and Kylian Mbappé scoring four goals in a single match. These results have reshuffled the power rankings based on squad market values.
Overperforming Clubs
Some clubs are punching above their weight. Qarabağ, with the 35th most valuable squad, sits 19th in the league table, boasting a power ranking score of +16. PSV, after a 4-1 win over Liverpool, ranks second with a score of +11. Among the bigger clubs, Borussia Dortmund (+10), Inter Milan (+6), and Paris Saint-Germain (+5) are top performers.
Underperforming Clubs
Barcelona, despite their valuable squad, slumped to 18th in the group stage, earning the worst power ranking score of -13. Juventus and Liverpool, both with high squad values, are languishing outside the top eight spots, each with a score of -9.
While these rankings are not definitive, they offer a snapshot of which clubs are exceeding or falling short of expectations based on their squad values.
