Counter-Strike is set for another historic leap in 2027, with Buenos Aires and Shanghai emerging as the host cities for the year’s two Majors. For Argentina, it marks a long-awaited first, while China will welcome its second Valve-backed Major just three years after Shanghai’s acclaimed debut.
Argentina to Host Its First-Ever Counter-Strike Major
The first Major of 2027 will take place in Buenos Aires, with FiReSPORTS confirmed as the tournament organizer. The Argentine company will oversee the first Major ever hosted in the country, making Argentina the 14th nation to stage a Valve-backed Counter-Strike Major.
FiReSPORTS Founder and CEO Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes confirmed the news and expressed his excitement about the milestone.
“We’re very excited to host the first Major in the history of our country,” Reyes told HLTV. “Fans will be delighted to come to a city like Buenos Aires, a city that blends European and Latin American influences, where they will be surprised by the passion of Counter-Strike fans in Argentina. We are going to give it our all to make this a great Major.”
The event will run from May 31 to June 20 and represents a major return for top-tier Counter-Strike in South America. The region last hosted a Major at the IEM Rio Major in 2022, an event remembered for its electric atmosphere and passionate crowds.
For FiReSPORTS, this will also be their most ambitious project to date, marking their first event on Counter-Strike’s biggest possible stage.
Shanghai Secures Second Major After Award-Winning 2024 Event
The second Major of 2027 will head to Shanghai, with Perfect World once again trusted to deliver. As Counter-Strike’s publisher in China, Perfect World previously hosted the Perfect World Shanghai Major in 2024, which went on to be voted Event of the Year at the HLTV Awards.
Although Perfect World declined to comment publicly, multiple sources familiar with Valve’s decision have confirmed that Shanghai is set to host the year’s closing Major. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 22 to December 12.
This decision further reinforces China’s growing importance in the global Counter-Strike ecosystem, both as a competitive market and a major destination for elite international events.
A Packed Major Roadmap Ahead
The 2027 Majors will follow two highly anticipated events in 2026: the IEM Cologne Major, widely regarded as one of Counter-Strike’s most prestigious venues, and the PGL Major in Singapore, which will mark the first Major ever held in Southeast Asia.
Looking even further ahead, HLTV has learned that the two Majors scheduled for 2028 have already been awarded, with ESL and BLAST securing the winning bids — setting the stage for continued stability and innovation at the top level of Counter-Strike esports.
Counter-Strike’s Global Expansion Continues
From South America to East Asia, Valve’s Major circuit continues to push Counter-Strike into new territories without abandoning its traditional strongholds. Buenos Aires and Shanghai represent more than just host cities — they symbolize the game’s evolving global identity.
With passionate local fanbases, experienced organizers, and a packed competitive calendar ahead, the 2027 Major season is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting in Counter-Strike history.
