Arsenal may have let the cat out of the bag with their next summer signing — by accident. While officially announcing the £52 million arrival of winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea, the Gunners seemingly confirmed the acquisition of Spanish defender Christian Mosquera through an unexpected image leak.

An official photo published on Arsenal’s website briefly showed Mosquera in club colours, appearing to conduct an interview with a member of the coaching staff. The image was quickly pulled from Getty Images, but not before fans and journalists spotted the giveaway.

Sources close to the club confirmed that Arsenal had indeed finalised a £13 million deal with Valencia for the versatile centre-back earlier this week. Mosquera passed his medical and has signed a long-term contract. He’s expected to step into a critical squad role as a replacement for Takehiro Tomiyasu, whose contract was mutually terminated due to persistent injury setbacks.

Mosquera brings flexibility to Mikel Arteta’s backline. Though primarily a centre-half, the 21-year-old is also capable at right-back — a valuable asset in a squad eyeing domestic and European contention. A product of Valencia’s academy, he amassed 90 appearances and scored once for the Spanish side. Transfermarkt currently pegs his market value at €30 million, underscoring the value Arsenal may have secured.

With Mosquera likely to be the Gunners’ fifth summer addition — following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martín Subiéndi, Kristian Nergo, and now Madueke — Arteta’s squad reshaping is clearly in full swing. Even if the announcement was premature, the message is loud and clear: Arsenal are building with purpose.
