Atlético Madrid have reached full agreement to sign Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP, with transfer authority Fabrizio Romano confirming the deal with his signature “Here We Go” stamp. The total fee is set at €40 million plus add-ons, and the 26-year-old Danish international has already travelled to Madrid to complete his medical and finalize the paperwork.
Atlético had intensified their pursuit over the final days of negotiations after Sporting rejected an initial offer. The deal represents a significant investment, and official confirmation from both clubs is still pending.
Hjulmand joined Sporting CP in the summer of 2023 from Lecce and wasted no time asserting himself at Alvalade. He became one of the squad’s most influential figures and eventually took on the captain’s armband. The 27-cap Denmark international brings leadership and physical authority to central midfield.
Pre-season training is scheduled to begin around 13 July, and Hjulmand is expected to slot straight into the group. The club views him as the midfielder to anchor Diego Simeone’s engine room heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
