Ajax have confirmed the arrival of Liverpool’s 23-year-old shot-stopper Vitezslav Jaros on a one-year loan deal, as the Dutch giants reinforce their goalkeeping ranks ahead of the new Eredivisie season.
Jaros, who joined Liverpool in 2017 from Slavia Prague’s academy, made his senior debut last October in a 1–0 Premier League win over Crystal Palace. He followed that with a composed full debut in Liverpool’s League Cup victory against Brighton. With limited first-team minutes on Merseyside, this move marks a pivotal chapter in his development.
New No.1 in Amsterdam
At Ajax, Jaros will step directly into the starting XI, taking over from veteran Remko Pasveer, who will transition to a backup role. The club is also reportedly pursuing 19-year-old Joeri Heerkens—a fellow Slavia Prague product—as a long-term project for the goalkeeper position.
Reunited with Heitinga
One key factor in Jaros’s decision to join Ajax? Head coach John Heitinga. The pair worked together at Liverpool, where Heitinga served under Arne Slot last season. “He’s a great man—always supportive from preseason to the end. Knowing the coach makes a difference,” Jaros said via the club’s official channels.
Heitinga’s influence, combined with Ajax’s world-renowned youth system and possession-heavy playing style, made Amsterdam the ideal destination. “Ajax does things the Ajax way. That’s how I like to play too. I’m confident in my distribution and footwork, so it’s a perfect match,” the Czech international added.
All In for the Title
Jaros isn’t just looking to gain experience—he’s eyeing silverware. “My personal goal is to play every match and win the title. That’s the Ajax standard, and I fully embrace that.”
Kroes: “A Quality Impulse”
Ajax technical director Alex Kroes hailed the deal as a strategic move. “We’re thrilled to welcome Vitezslav to Amsterdam. Despite his age, he brings valuable experience from his time at Liverpool. His athleticism, composure in one-on-ones, and ability to play with the ball at his feet make him a seamless fit for our system.”
Kroes emphasized that Jaros is more than just a stopgap. “His presence gives our squad a quality impulse. It’s a significant boost as we look to dominate both domestically and in Europe.”
Looking Ahead
Jaros will return to Liverpool at the end of the 2025 season, but for now, he stands ready to make his mark in the Eredivisie. With Heitinga at the helm and Ajax’s expectations sky-high, all eyes will be on the young Czech as he takes on the biggest opportunity of his career.
