Freiburg vs Bayern Munich
Not a single Freiburg player was called up to the Germany squad for the friendly against Ghana. That can only please the Breisgauers’ coaching staff: the end of the season promises to be intense, so optimal freshness will be a real asset. In their last match before the international break, the Black and Whites snapped a three-game winless run in the Bundesliga by beating St. Pauli away (2:1). Freiburg also secured a spot in the Europa League quarterfinals with a dominant home win over Genk (5:1). And there is the DFB-Pokal semifinal against Stuttgart on April 24 to look forward to.
Bayern Munich face an equally demanding schedule. The Champions League brings a classic European showdown against Real Madrid, while the other DFB-Pokal semifinal pits them against Bayer Leverkusen. The Rekordmeister hold a commanding 9-point lead in the league, giving them the luxury of managing their workload. As we know, though, the “Star of the South” is accustomed to wrapping up titles early, so there will be no complacency.

Considering both teams have European fixtures midweek, the ideal scenario would be for the outcome to be settled before halftime. I expect the visitors to secure an advantage in the first half.
Hoffenheim vs Mainz
Before the international break, these two sides produced contrasting results. Hoffenheim, who spent a long stretch in the Champions League places, have slowed down considerably. With just one win in their last five matches, the team has dropped to fifth, level on points with RB Leipzig and separated only by tiebreakers.
Mainz have hit excellent form, winning three straight. The “Carnival Club’s” unbeaten run stretches to seven matches across all competitions. Their gap to the relegation zone has grown to six points — not enough to guarantee a stress-free finish, but enough to significantly reduce the risk of going down.

A win in this fixture is critically important for the home side, who are determined to end their poor run and return to winning ways. The Carnival Club under the experienced Urs Fischer remain an extremely stubborn opponent, capable of giving the ambitious hosts a real fight.
Mallorca vs Real Madrid
Mallorca suffered their first league defeat under Martin Demichelis, losing away to Elche (1:2). The hosts were sharper on the day, but the islanders had a chance to equalize in stoppage time when Vedat Muriqi missed a penalty. That loss against a direct rival dropped Mallorca to 18th place, back into the danger zone.
Real Madrid have weathered injuries to key players admirably, managing not just to stabilize but to boost their trophy chances. Manchester City were dispatched with surprising ease in the Champions League (5:1 on aggregate), and in their last La Liga outing “Los Blancos” won the derby against Atletico Madrid (3:2). The gap to Barcelona stands at 4 points, but given the demanding schedules facing both giants, the title race remains wide open.
Match prediction: Real Madrid win and total goals over 1.5 (odds 1.80)
The visitors are still fighting for the title, and while they will face a motivated opponent, the difference in quality should tell.
Verona vs Fiorentina
It is hard to say that Verona have improved since changing their head coach. The “Mastiffs” remain stuck in the relegation zone with slim survival hopes. This match against Fiorentina is one of the most important and decisive fixtures of their run-in. The team looks weak at home, yet the head-to-head record offers some encouragement against Fiorentina.
Fiorentina have spent the whole season dragging themselves out of Serie A’s mire. And recently that effort has started to pay off more often.

Wins over Bologna and Como, a draw with Inter show that Paolo Vanoli’s team is alive and capable of taking three points even at the Marcantonio Bentegodi. Though it will be very difficult.
Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona
A dress rehearsal for the upcoming Champions League quarterfinal.
For Atletico Madrid, domestic league fixtures are taking a back seat right now. All of Diego Simeone’s squad’s focus should be directed toward the Champions League, where “Los Colchoneros” have far more realistic trophy ambitions than in La Liga. Notably, Atletico have recently played nothing but high-profile matches: Tottenham in the Champions League, Real Madrid in the league.
Barcelona sit four points clear of their nearest challenger, giving Hansi Flick’s side some breathing room. In their last eight matches across all competitions, the Catalans have seven wins and a draw against Newcastle in the Champions League. In the previous matchday, “Blaugrana” edged Rayo Vallecano at home, but in the two fixtures before that they scored 12 goals. A serious blow to the team’s attacking ambitions is the injury to Raphinha.
Match prediction: Total shots on target over 10.5 (odds 1.68)
The last four meetings between these teams in La Liga have been high-scoring, so goals should come this time as well. The midweek match between the two could prove to be a more cagey and cautious affair.
Sunday Betting Digest, April 5
Getafe vs Athletic Club
The Coliseum hosts a meeting between table neighbours who are both eyeing European qualification.
Both teams have 38 points, the same as Real Sociedad, but trail them on goal difference. Their closest pursuers sit just one point behind, making the battle for European spots across the remaining nine rounds extremely tight. There is a strong possibility that, as last season, even eighth place could be enough to secure a spot on the European stage.
“Los Azulones”, like the Basques, won their last match before the international break by an identical 2:1 scoreline. Both sides also share the burden of significant absentee lists for this fixture.
Both clubs have produced inconsistent results throughout the campaign, but Getafe’s recent form looks more convincing: wins over Real Madrid and Betis are clear evidence of that.
Match prediction: Getafe Double Chance (1X) and total under 2.5 (odds 1.86)
While Getafe do not impress at home, Jose Bordalas’ men have established themselves as a team that is always tough to play against. The opposition’s poor away form also works in favour of Los Azulones. There is no full confidence in a home win, but avoiding defeat is well within their reach. For higher odds, you can add the traditionally low-scoring Getafe under.
Cremonese vs Bologna
In their very first match under Marco Giampaolo, Cremonese snapped a dreadful 15-match winless streak in Serie A. The result came instantly: an away victory over Parma (2:0) in a tense contest where the visitors were the more purposeful side. On tiebreakers, Cremonese moved above Lecce and out of the relegation zone into 17th place.
After a dramatic Europa League round of 16 second leg, where Bologna snatched qualification away at Roma, the “Rossoblu” fell to Lazio (0:2) in the league. Bologna are 9th in the table, 12 points off the European places. With just 8 rounds remaining, Vincenzo Italiano may well choose to channel resources into the European campaign.
Match prediction: Cremonese Double Chance (1X) and total under 4.5 (odds 1.90)
I believe the hosts’ motivation in this match will be considerably higher, while the visitors are already quietly preparing for the Aston Villa tie.
Angers vs Lyon
This Ligue 1 round brings together two teams mired in deep slumps. Both sides are displaying some of the worst form in the league, with dismal records over their last five matches.
Angers, with seven rounds left, have virtually secured their top-flight survival. The team sits in 12th place with a solid 10-point cushion above the danger zone. A defining characteristic of Angers’ home games is low scoring: only 3 of their 14 home fixtures have produced more than two goals.
Lyon maintained consistency for a long stretch, keeping themselves in the Champions League places. But after their impressive unbeaten run was ended by Strasbourg (1:3), “Les Gones” went into freefall. The team have gone seven matches without a win, putting their Champions League dreams at serious risk. Lyon remain in fourth but lead nearest challenger Lille only on goal difference.
Match prediction: Lyon win (odds 1.80)
Rivals in the table have picked up excellent momentum, so if Les Gones do not end their poor run soon, they risk a significant drop. The head-to-head record is firmly on the visitors’ side: since 2022, they have consistently beaten Angers. It is likely that Paulo Fonseca’s men will be able to use their quality advantage and get back to winning ways.
Real Oviedo vs Sevilla
Real Oviedo prop up the La Liga table. Their latest defeat to Levante (2:4) was disappointing in result but carried a silver lining: the team finally created enough goalscoring chances and improved their attacking output to 20 goals in 29 rounds. The gap to the safety of 17th place stands at 8 points.
Sevilla are hardly convincing either: in their last four league matches, the Nervionenses have collected just 2 points. In their final game before the international break, the team lost at home to Valencia (0:2) and currently sit 15th, just 3 points above the relegation zone. What you cannot deny them is entertainment value: matches involving “Los Blanquirrojos” average 3 goals per game, significantly above their lower-table rivals.
Match prediction: Total over 2 (odds 1.83)
It is hard to pick a favourite, but in my opinion the totals market for this match is slightly inflated. The teams should score at least twice.
Monaco vs Marseille
Arguably the match of the round takes place at the Stade Louis II, where two direct contenders for a Champions League ticket face off.
Monaco have begun producing consistent results for the first time since Pocognoli’s arrival, hitting top form and collecting maximum points from their last five Ligue 1 matches. The Monegasques’ unbeaten run stretches to six games, in each of which they have scored at least two goals. That attacking output is a sharp contrast to the early days under the Belgian coach, when goals were hard to come by.
Marseille currently sit third, trailing Lens by ten points while leading their nearest pursuers by just two and their upcoming opponents by three. Since the appointment of Habib Beye, the team have played six matches, winning three, and were eliminated from the Coupe de France by Toulouse on penalties. Marseille’s top scorer this season, Mason Greenwood, will miss this game due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Match prediction: Monaco win (odds 2.20) Alternative prediction: Red card in the match (odds 3.40)
Interestingly, the two coaches already met this season, when Habib Beye’s Rennes claimed a convincing 4:1 win. This time, though, the advantage lies with Sebastien Pocognoli’s side. Given the importance of the match and the emotional nature of both squads, a sending-off should not be ruled out, which could serve as an additional angle for a prediction.
Inter vs Roma
Inter lost their rhythm before the break, going three matches without a win. After the break, they welcomed back a group of frustrated players following Italy’s humiliating elimination by Bosnia. How will the league leaders cope with all of that? There is strong hope that the head-to-head record against Roma will play a part, as will the return of captain Lautaro Martinez, without whom the “Nerazzurri” attack was less effective, despite the criticism aimed at the Argentine throughout the season.
Roma are in no better shape than Inter. The team were knocked out of the Europa League, qualification for the Champions League is under serious threat. The squad’s condition is far from ideal for various reasons. The same goes for the frequency of goals conceded, and for their away performances.

I expect this to be a meeting between two sides not at their best, but the hosts have better chances of claiming the final result.
