The Golden State Warriors continue to tread carefully around the future of Jonathan Kuminga, with trade chatter intensifying — yet progress stalling. Despite outside interest, particularly from the Sacramento Kings, Golden State is reportedly standing firm on a few internal priorities.
According to NBA insider Sam Amick, one major sticking point in talks has been the Warriors’ reluctance to include sharpshooter Buddy Hield or emerging talent Moses Moody in any potential package.
“I’m told Golden State really doesn’t want to move neither Buddy Hield or Moses Moody (which would be required)”
— Amick revealed in his latest update.
That sentiment suggests a clear direction: the franchise sees Kuminga — still just 22 — as an integral part of its near-term vision. Amick added
“Yes, the Warriors are indeed signaling that they expect Kuminga to be on their roster next season.”
Statistically, Kuminga’s 2024-25 campaign showcased growth. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists across 47 games, shooting 45.4% from the field and 30.5% from deep. While those numbers don’t leap off the page, they underline his potential as a dynamic, two-way contributor.
Golden State’s current stance points toward a strategy rooted in internal development and roster stability — especially in a Western Conference where every edge counts. Kuminga’s name might continue to swirl in trade talks, but as of now, the Warriors seem committed to keeping their young forward in the Bay.
