Warriors Announce Major Stephen Curry Return Decision Today
The Golden State Warriors stand on the brink of a significant development. Stephen Curry, the team’s two-time MVP, approaches a potential return after 62 days away from NBA competition. His last game was over two months ago, marking his longest absence since the 2019-20 season when he was 31 years old. Now at 38, Curry’s body will respond differently to such an extended layoff.
Momentum for a return has intensified this week. The Warriors’ medical staff cleared Curry to participate in five-on-five scrimmages, a critical step in his rehabilitation. On Tuesday, he took part in team practice followed by an intense scrimmage session. Head coach Steve Kerr expressed optimism about Curry’s performance during that initial competitive action.
Kerr revealed that Curry will undergo a second scrimmage on Thursday, with the outcome determining the timeline for his official return.
“He said yesterday that he wanted to shoot on the court,” Kerr stated, according to The San Francisco Chronicle. “I think it’s purposeful. I think he wants to feel the crowd and show the crowd that he wants to come back. So that’s the hope. He’ll have another scrimmage here in the next couple days — I think tomorrow — and we’ll see how he feels after that.”
Return Target Set for Houston Matchup
Curry has established Sunday’s home game against the Houston Rockets as his target return date. If he plays, it will mark his first appearance in 65 days and his 28th consecutive absence.
The Warriors have struggled without their franchise cornerstone. Golden State has won fewer than 10 games since Curry was sidelined, currently sitting at 36-41 after three consecutive losses. The team showed resilience despite the adversity, but expectations will shift dramatically upon his return.
Playing at home provides an optimal environment for a comeback. Chase Center will generate significant energy for Curry’s arrival, potentially providing the emotional lift Golden State needs to finish the season strong. The home crowd advantage could prove instrumental as the Warriors attempt to reverse their recent slide.
