Swedish government removed restrictions that prevented CS:GO Major

07.09.2021, 11:26

The Swedish government announced the lifting of restrictions on mass events and private gatherings. The rules will expire at the end of the month. The Swedish authorities announced this changes at a press conference today.

This news became undoubtedly joyful for fans of esports, because it means that the Major Championship PGL 2021 at least will take place in Sweden.

The PGL company plans to hold the Major from October 22 to November 7 in Stockholm, where we can see the best CS:GO teams in the world.

Previously, the tournament operator said that there would be difficulties because the Swedish government imposed restrictions. For example, the lack of viewers at the venue could significantly spoil the feelings in time of watching the Major. This tournament would have no difference with the ordinary LANs without viewers that many tournament operators held during the pandemic. PGL executives even talked about the opportunity of moving the Majors from Stockholm.

Recently the Swedish government stopped the entry ban due to pressure from the Swedish esports community. Representatives of the community worked together with the authorities to fix the problem with the entry. The ban was lifted for all CS:GO Majors staff and participants in the summer.

Earlier PGL moved the most important Dota 2 tournament The International 10 to Bucharest where the organization’s headquarters is based due to of Swedish restrictions.
