Fabrizio Romano: Real Madrid's Olise Obsession Surpasses €200m Mark as Perez Eyes New Galactico

14.07.2026, 07:48

Florentino Perez has a clear target. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is fixated on signing Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise, with the France international now ranked above Julian Alvarez on Perez’s transfer wish list.

During his presidential re-election campaign, Perez publicly committed to submitting a €150 million bid for a world-class signing. After winning re-election, he directed that offer at Alvarez of Atletico Madrid. The proposal was rejected immediately, with Atleti publicly mocking the figure by pointing to Alvarez’s €500 million release clause.

Romano has since identified Olise as the player Perez truly wants. The journalist believes the 24-year-old is seen as the key to restoring Champions League and LaLiga glory to the Bernabeu.

On June 20, Real Madrid released an official statement denying any contact with Olise, a move designed to protect their working relationship with Bayern. Romano has not backed down.

“Olise is the Galactico in Florentino Perez’s mind. The Julian Alvarez story has never really been concrete. The player wanted by Florentino before, now, and in the next years, is Olise. Florentino Perez loves Michael Olise. There is pure admiration for Michael Olise.”

“It’s going to be important to understand, in conversations with Bayern, if there is any chance to open doors to an exit this summer. At the moment, Bayern insist they want to keep the player. So I think it’s going to be difficult and complicated at this stage.”

“But in case there is even a small way to make it happen, Florentino Perez believes Michael Olise is the perfect player for Real Madrid’s quality, style and Galactico mentality. So, let’s see. This depends on Bayern, and Bayern, as of today, insist they absolutely want to keep Michael Olise.”

Madrid Target a Mbappe-Olise Partnership

Real Madrid already possess one of the most dangerous attacks in world football. Adding Olise would make them considerably more difficult to contain. Olise and Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe have already formed a productive partnership at international level with France at the World Cup, which feeds Perez’s conviction that the combination would translate at club level.

The transfer carries a steep price. Bayern are expected to demand in excess of €200 million before sanctioning any sale.

Madrid’s longer-term ambitions include pairing Mbappe with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland at some point. Financing that kind of deal would almost certainly require the sale of a high-value asset, with Vinicius Junior the most likely candidate. On paper, an attacking unit featuring Mbappe, Haaland, and Olise would present a near-impossible defensive challenge, though translating that combination into a functional system remains an open question.

Separately, there has been an update on Aurelien Tchouameni’s potential move to Manchester United.
