NBA Fines Naz Reid $50,000 for Challenging Referee Integrity
Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves received a $50,000 fine from the NBA on Friday for questioning the integrity of game officials. The incident occurred during Wednesday’s home victory over the Houston Rockets, a 110-108 overtime triumph.
The controversy unfolded 47 seconds into overtime when Reid was called for a charging foul against Houston center Alperen Sengun. After the Timberwolves challenged the call and the review upheld the original decision, Reid confronted referee Scott Foster about the ruling. His complaints earned him a technical foul and immediate ejection.
The 26-year-old American enters his seventh season with Minnesota. He won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 2024, recognition of his impact as the league’s top reserve player.
The Timberwolves currently hold a 45-28 record, sitting fifth in the Western Conference with nine games remaining. The Rockets trail at sixth place, 1.5 games behind Minnesota.
