Man Utd’s £43m Demands Cloud Andre Onana’s Trabzonspor Future

The saga surrounding goalkeeper Andre Onana’s future at Manchester United is taking a clearer shape, though it’s not the outcome many might have expected. After what has largely been considered a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, a permanent move away seemed inevitable, especially with the impressive form of Senne Lammens since his arrival last summer.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, a key hurdle has emerged in Onana’s potential permanent transfer to Trabzonspor. The Turkish club appears to be struggling with United’s substantial asking price.

Previously, it was understood that Onana himself was open to remaining with Trabzonspor, while also exploring options in Serie A. That desire now seems to clash with financial realities, as Trabzonspor is unlikely to meet the reported £43 million valuation for the Cameroon international.

Trabzonspor Unable to Meet United’s Price Tag

Zeyyat Kafkas, Trabzonspor’s vice-president, openly discussed the financial challenges in securing Onana on a permanent basis.

“As the figure from Manchester United for the purchase of Andre Onana is in the range of €45-50m, our president has sincerely informed the community in line with Trabzonspor’s realities,” Kafkas told Gunebakıs.

Kafkas also shed light on Onana’s perspective, indicating that the financial revelation hasn’t deterred the player.

“I don’t think this information affected Onana at all. Because Onana’s thinking is that if it’s not England, he wants to continue at a club in Europe.

“His family thinks the same way. The president also wanted to explain Trabzonspor’s reality. However, if the conditions change, the situation changes.”

This statement strongly suggests that while Onana prefers a move away from England, Trabzonspor’s inability to meet United’s demands will likely force him to seek alternatives elsewhere in Europe. The 29-year-old goalkeeper might already be exploring other avenues.

For Manchester United, the situation presents a new challenge. To offload Onana, they may need to significantly adjust their asking price to a more realistic figure, making a potential transfer more palatable for interested clubs.
