Kylian Mbappe looks primed to make his long-awaited Club World Cup debut as Real Madrid prepare to face Juventus in the last 16 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium this Tuesday. The return of the France forward, who missed all three group matches due to acute gastroenteritis, offers a timely injection of star power for the reigning European champions.
“It’s a big possibility,” confirmed head coach Xabi Alonso in Monday’s pre-match press conference. The match marks Alonso’s first major test since taking charge earlier this month, and having Mbappe back in the fold could be a decisive factor in Madrid’s title push.
Real Madrid’s squad has been further bolstered by the returns of Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, both back from extended injury layoffs. “It’s an advantage for them and the whole team to feel they’re close and involved,” Alonso noted. “At this decisive stage, everyone — starters and those supporting — has an important role.”
Alonso also emphasized his tactical vision for the team. “We want a team that works as one, with the 11 players fully committed, whether we have the ball or not,” he said. “Our collective strength will allow individual talents like Vinicius, Mbappe, Rodrigo, and Bellingham to shine.”
Juventus manager Igor Tudor acknowledged the uphill battle his side faces but struck a defiant tone. “The draw wasn’t the best possible, but it must be accepted,” he said. “We have to believe, run a lot, sacrifice, make no mistakes, and also have a bit of luck.”
Tudor also credited Alonso’s tactical imprint on Madrid, comparing it to his successful tenure at Bayer Leverkusen. “Their last match looked a lot like what Leverkusen were doing — similar plays, systems, and style,” he observed. Still, he pointed out, “Madrid have some weaknesses we can exploit.”
The winner of this heavyweight clash will go on to face either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey, who meet in Atlanta on the same day — setting the stage for a blockbuster quarter-final showdown.
