Kyle Lowry is officially part of one of the NBA’s most exclusive clubs — the 20-season veterans. The 39-year-old Philadelphia guard made his season debut on Sunday night as the 76ers cruised past the Brooklyn Nets 129–105.
Checking in with just over three minutes remaining, Lowry’s brief but symbolic appearance etched his name among basketball’s ironmen. He became only the 12th player in NBA history to reach the 20-season milestone — a testament to endurance, discipline, and leadership.

A Milestone Two Decades in the Making
“I guess he gets his 20th season officially in the books now by hitting the court,” head coach Nick Nurse said postgame. “Who would have thought it for Kyle Lowry 20 years ago, right?”
Lowry now joins a select group that includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Jamal Crawford, and Udonis Haslem. The record for longevity still belongs to LeBron James and Vince Carter with 22 seasons, while Chris Paul is currently in his 21st campaign.
Veteran Leadership and Locker Room Presence
Even before stepping onto the floor, Lowry’s impact on the 76ers had been felt. “He’s really done a great job being part of our leadership group,” Nurse added. “The players are pulling for him out there — he’s well-liked, well-respected.”
Lowry made his lone shot count — a 3-pointer with 1:19 remaining — drawing smiles and applause from teammates. He also recorded a steal and an assist in his limited minutes, a reminder of his trademark efficiency and basketball IQ.

“They are so happy for me,” Lowry said, reflecting on the moment as teammates cheered from the bench. For Tyrese Maxey, the veteran’s influence extends far beyond the court. “That’s a Hall of Famer we’re talking about,” Maxey said. “He’s up cheering for everybody, motivating people, talking in the locker room. I’ve got nothing but love and respect for K-Low.”
Maxey even revealed that Lowry calls him several times a day, helping him refine his craft. “I couldn’t do this without him,” Maxey added.
Balancing the Court and the Booth
Lowry’s career has evolved in new directions this season. Alongside his on-court duties, he’s also working as an analyst for Prime Video, which began broadcasting NBA games this year. His multiyear deal, signed in September, calls for select appearances and future expanded responsibilities.
A Philadelphia Homecoming
For Lowry, the moment carried extra meaning. The Philadelphia native and former Villanova star is back where it all began. A six-time All-Star and 2019 NBA champion with the Toronto Raptors, Lowry is widely regarded as the greatest player in Raptors history — and he has already stated his intention to retire as part of that franchise one day.
