Premier League Players Avoid Suspension as Yellow Card Rules Reset
2025/26England
Manchester UnitedSeveral Premier League players can breathe a sigh of relief this weekend as the league’s yellow card suspension rules reset after 19 games. Until now, players faced a one-match ban for accumulating five yellow cards. But starting January 3, the threshold jumps to 10 yellows—though the punishment becomes harsher.
Players who reach 10 yellow cards before the 32nd game will now serve a two-match suspension instead of one. While previous yellows carry over, those sitting on four cautions are no longer walking a tightrope—until they hit nine.
The stakes rise further: 15 yellows in a season trigger a three-match ban.
Players on the Edge
Among those still in the danger zone:
- Lewis Dunk (Brighton) – 7 yellows
- Cristian Romero (Tottenham) – 7 yellows
Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo (Chelsea) and Ethan Ampadu (Leeds United) are serving suspensions for yellow card accumulations, while Xavi Simons (Tottenham) is out due to a red card.
The reset offers a fresh start for many, but discipline remains key as the season intensifies.
