Newcastle Plots Move for £65M Tottenham Star
Newcastle United is reportedly targeting Tottenham Hotspur’s Dominic Solanke in a surprising summer transfer move. The Tyneside club aims to bolster its attacking options, especially with uncertainty surrounding William Osula’s future. Magpies manager Eddie Howe is familiar with Solanke’s abilities and hopes to reunite with the striker, potentially alongside Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. A key factor in this potential transfer, however, is Tottenham’s Premier League status.
Tottenham invested heavily in Solanke, paying £65 million for his services. Despite the significant outlay, he has struggled to find consistent scoring form. Recently returning from an ankle injury, Solanke has shown flashes of his potential, netting five goals in 11 appearances for a team that has faced considerable challenges.
Tottenham’s Relegation Woes Could Pave Way for Solanke’s Exit
Despite his injury setbacks, Solanke remains a vital component of Tottenham’s plans. The club would ideally prefer to retain him, even if they were to face relegation. However, a drop to the Championship would severely complicate their ability to hold onto the former Bournemouth star. If Tottenham fails to secure their Premier League survival, Newcastle is expected to aggressively pursue Solanke, potentially on a bargain deal.
If they fail to survive the drop, the Magpies will push hard to secure his services in a bargain deal. Despite his contract running until 2030, Tottenham will have very little control over his future if they are competing in the Championship next season.
Even with his contract extending until 2030, relegation would significantly diminish Tottenham’s leverage over Solanke’s future. This scenario would present Newcastle with a prime opportunity to acquire a proven goal scorer, a move that would undoubtedly excite their fanbase.
