It’s official: Emil “Magisk” Reif is back in Astralis red. The three-time Major champion returns to the team after a turbulent stint with Falcons, replacing Martin “stavn” Lund, who’s stepping away from active duty due to “personal circumstances.”
A Familiar Face Returns
Magisk is no stranger to Astralis. From 2018 to 2021, he helped sculpt one of CS:GO’s most dominant dynasties, lifting three Majors and building a legacy of precision and discipline. His return feels like a calculated roll of the dice — one rooted in experience and perhaps a little nostalgia.
He slots into the lineup after a two-year chapter with Team Falcons, where he initially joined during the squad’s ambitious rebuild. While Falcons found some success — most notably at PGL Bucharest — Magisk’s role diminished in the latest shuffle, making way for rising star kyousuke.
Astralis: Back on Shaky Ground?
Internally, Astralis are at a crossroads. Financial reports earlier this year confirmed that the org was exploring a sale, and the CS2 division in particular has struggled to justify its hefty investment. Missed Majors, roster instability, and high-profile transfer fees — like the $1.5–$2 million spent on stavn and jabbi — have painted a concerning picture.
Performance-wise, things began looking up with the arrival of Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen. The ex-Flames and G2 IGL breathed new life into the squad, guiding them to silver at PGL Astana and FISSURE Playground 1. But recent exits at IEM Cologne and Esports World Cup suggest the rebuild is far from over.

Falcons EsportsWhat Happened with Stavn?
When stavn joined Astralis in late 2023 alongside jabbi, expectations were sky-high. But despite a solid 1.06 average rating, the once-clutch rifler never truly clicked. Under HooXi’s leadership, his role was reworked to make space for Victor “Staehr” Staehr, effectively sidelining his impact.
Now, with a bench spot beside cadiaN, stavn’s future hangs in the balance.

Looking Ahead
With StarLadder Budapest looming, Magisk’s return might just be the wildcard Astralis need to qualify and reclaim some of their lost prestige. He brings not just firepower, but a wealth of experience — something that could steady the ship during a time of organizational and competitive volatility.
