Liverpool are attempting a last-minute transfer raid on VfB Stuttgart, targeting winger Jamie Leweling as a direct replacement for departed superstar Mohamed Salah.

The Reds have navigated a transfer window of mixed results. A mass exodus stripped the squad of Salah, Andrew Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, and the club nearly lost Cody Gakpo to a strong Manchester City bid. On the positive side, Liverpool secured PSG superstar Bradley Barcola, who joins Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and summer signing Victor Munoz in a revamped attack. Still, Andoni Iraola’s side wants another forward, and their focus has turned to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool and Everton Both Chasing Jamie Leweling

According to Sky Germany, both Liverpool and Everton are pursuing Stuttgart forward Jamie Leweling, with Liverpool viewing him as a potential Salah replacement. The 25-year-old is under contract at Stuttgart until 2029, which means any deal will carry a premium price tag.

His numbers from the 2025-26 campaign make the late push understandable. Leweling posted 11 goals across all competitions, seven of them in the Bundesliga, and contributed 12 assists, nine of which came in the German top-flight. His finishing was clinical — he missed just one Opta-defined big chance across the Bundesliga season, converting seven goals from an xG of 4.31. He also created the joint second-most big chances for Stuttgart, tied on ten with Angelo Stiller and Maximilian Mittelstadt.

His take-on output was limited, registering just one dribble per 90 minutes. Physically, he was more present, winning nearly seven duels per 90 at a success rate just under 50%.

Roma Enter the Picture, Liverpool and Everton Hold Interest

Roma have registered significant interest in Leweling in recent hours, but no agreement has been reached. Liverpool and Everton remain active in pursuit.

Should Leweling land at Anfield, he would slot in as a natural right-flank replacement for Salah, though he also carries left-wing experience. With Munoz and Barcola both favouring the left side, Gakpo would likely absorb the right-flank duties if Liverpool fail to close a deal. The Reds have also shown interest in Ismaila Sarr and Yankuba Minteh, two Premier League-proven options, though neither move appears close to completion.

Whatever direction Liverpool choose, filling Salah’s position before the window closes will cost a significant fee. Follow TipsGG for the latest updates as this story develops.
