Liverpool Line Up Andoni Iraola as Arne Slot Replacement While Curtis Jones Transfer Talks Open

28.05.2026, 05:06

Liverpool are reportedly exploring managerial options this summer as Arne Slot‘s future at Anfield grows increasingly uncertain. The Dutchman oversaw a poor title defense, with the club finishing fifth in the Premier League on 60 points24 fewer than the previous season. Despite sustained pressure throughout the campaign, club owner Fenway Sports Group (FSG) was said to remain behind the 47-year-old.

Slot has already shifted focus to summer recruitment, identifying a new winger as a priority following Mohamed Salah‘s departure. That planning has done little to silence speculation about the club’s managerial direction, with a key first-team figure also said to be weighing an exit from Merseyside.

Liverpool Make Approach for Andoni Iraola

Slot has just one year left on his Liverpool contract, and he may not see it out. According to Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Reds have made an approach to recruit Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. The club is understood to be assessing its managerial options, with interest in the Spaniard reportedly gaining momentum.

Iraola, 43, has also attracted attention from AC Milan as a potential successor to Max Allegri. Sky Sports Italy reports that Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace are also monitoring his situation.

Di Marzio indicated that any discussions around Iraola would be focused on a future appointment rather than an immediate one. Waiting too long, though, risks Liverpool losing out if the club opts to give Slot more time to recover from a difficult season.

Curtis Jones Transfer Talks Advance

With Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson both heading for the exit, Liverpool could also be preparing to part ways with academy product Curtis Jones. Sporting director Richard Hughes traveled to Monte Carlo on Tuesday to hold talks with Inter counterpart Piero Ausilio over a potential deal, per Di Marzio.

Inter were keen on the 25-year-old during the January window, before Slot blocked his departure. Jones has one year left on his contract and is said to be “prioritizing” a move to Milan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano — a switch that would end his 16-year association with the club.
