Six games in and PSV already look like they’re playing a different sport to everyone else in the Eredivisie. That contrast, tight home side against a leaky-but-lethal visitor, is really what this whole match hinges on.
Wout Weghorst has been the focal point of Twente’s attack, four goals and two assists across his last five outings, and he’s the kind of target man who can drag PSV’s back line into uncomfortable duels all afternoon. On the other side, Ivan Perišić keeps popping up with goals and dangerous deliveries from wide areas, and against a Twente side that concedes a fair number of fouls in wide zones, his set-piece quality could matter more than people expect.

We lean PSV here, but not blindly. Their attack is simply operating on another level right now, five wins from six domestically and an away record that’s just as strong as their home one. Twente aren’t a soft touch though, four wins from six at home this season and a defense that’s actually been stingier than PSV’s in recent weeks. Our pick is PSV to win, though we’d rather back it alongside goals than as a clean sheet bet, this fixture has produced at least three goals in three of the last four meetings and both these squads are built to attack.
Style-wise, PSV commit more fouls (51 in their last five vs Twente’s 59, actually close) and pick up more yellow cards, 12 compared to Twente’s 7, which hints at a slightly more reactive defensive setup when they lose the ball high up the pitch. Pass accuracy sits marginally in PSV’s favor too. None of that screams a cagey affair. If anything, the fouling numbers suggest set pieces and corners could decide fine margins, especially with Twente racking up 41 corners in their last five matches compared to PSV’s 35.

Team Analysis
Twente’s last five reads well on paper. A 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag was their most recent outing, tidy and controlled, following a 1-0 grind past Telstar, a 2-2 draw with Groningen where they let a lead slip, and comfortable wins over Cambuur (4-1) and Qarabag (4-1) in between. Four wins, one draw, only four goals conceded across the stretch. That ADO game in particular showed a Twente side comfortable sitting on a lead rather than chasing it, which honestly might be their best trait heading into a match where PSV will dominate the ball for long stretches.
PSV’s recent form is borderline absurd. Their last outing was a 4-1 win over Sparta Rotterdam, and in our preview of PSV vs Sparta Rotterdam we backed PSV to win comfortably by two or more with the game going Over 3.5 goals, and the 4-1 scoreline delivered exactly that. Before Sparta it was a 1-1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk (their only slip in six weeks), a 3-1 win over Ajax, a 6-1 demolition of Utrecht, and a 5-1 win against Groningen. Twenty goals in four wins is not normal production for this league, and Peter Bosz’s side look set up to keep attacking regardless of who they face.
